Surviving the Sands: Mastering Water Collection in Dune: Awakening
In the harsh environment of Arrakis, survival hinges on mastering one essential resource: water. Even amidst the unforgiving dunes, neglecting to gather and store adequate amounts can spell disaster. Relying solely on dewdrops found on desert plants isn’t a viable strategy for long-term survival; players must establish a reliable system for water collection, storage, and purification to thrive in this challenging landscape.
Water is not only vital for sustaining your character’s hydration but is also a critical component for crafting and utilizing advanced game items. Mastering the collection and management of this resource is crucial for successful gameplay on the arid planet.
Using the Literjon for Water Storage
The first step to ensuring you have enough water on Arrakis is crafting a Literjon. This container not only allows you to store collected water but also enables you to drink from it anytime, boosting hydration levels. Keep the Literjon handy for transferring water between cisterns and various bases, which plays a vital role in your survival strategy.
To enhance your water storage capabilities, consider purchasing Hajra’s Literjob from the Griffin’s Reach Outpost, situated in Hagga Basin South. This higher-capacity version of the Literjon is well worth the investment, as it facilitates more survival and crafting opportunities. Always remember to keep your Literjon readily accessible, either in a quick access slot for immediate hydration or within your inventory for later use.
Effective Water Collection Techniques
There are primarily two methods to gather water in Dune: Awakening. The first involves harvesting dew from plants, particularly in areas like Primrose Fields. To accelerate the process, you’ll need to craft either a Dew Scythe or Dew Reaper, both of which can be created using your base’s Fabricator. Don’t forget to conduct research within your character menu before unlocking new tools.
The optimal time for dew collection is early morning, just before sunrise, as additional sunlight significantly reduces yield. Alternatively, water can be scavenged from Imperial Testing Stations, where numerous containers may collectively yield substantial amounts of water. Remember to max out your Literjon, and always store any collected water in a Water Cistern back at your base for later use, ensuring you have enough water for your hydration and crafting needs.
Purifying Blood for Water Supply
For those looking to establish a more sustainable water source at their base, blood purification is an advanced but effective method. First, craft a Blood Extractor, and ensure you have a Small Blood Sack to store the extracted blood. Each Blood Sack can hold up to 3, 000 ml, providing a useful starting point for your adventures across Arrakis.
To extract blood, equip the Blood Extractor and approach defeated enemies. If the crosshair turns green, you can successfully extract blood. Be aware that enemy bodies lose blood over time, so urgency is essential. While you can drink directly from the Blood Sack, this method is less hydrating compared to pure water.
Once you’ve gathered enough blood, transport it back to your base and deposit it into a Blood Purifier. For crafting this device, you’ll first need to research the Blood Exsanguination Kit and gather 70 Salvaged Metal. After depositing the blood, the purification process takes time, but will eventually yield potable water that can be stored in your Literjon or Cisterns, or consumed directly in emergencies.
As you advance through the game, remember that upgrading your Blood Extractor, Blood Sacks, and Blood Purifier can drastically improve your efficiency in resource management, transforming an initially morbid necessity into a vital aspect of your survival strategy on Arrakis.
