Draymond Green ejection history for 2023-2024 NBA season: Warriors’ forward inches closer to breaking notorious record

Draymond Green ejection history for 2023-2024 NBA season: Warriors’ forward inches closer to breaking notorious record

Despite his reputation for aggressive play, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is making strides towards a notorious NBA record. In fact, during the Warriors-Magic game on Thursday night, Green was ejected after only four minutes due to an altercation with a referee.

Green’s ejection in this game marked the fourth time he has been removed from a match this season and the 21st time in his illustrious career. This puts him just eight ejections behind Rasheed Wallace, a former NBA champion.

If he continues with his current behavior as his career nears its end, the 34-year-old forward is likely to surpass Wallace’s notorious record.

Despite his recent ejection, the one positive aspect is that Green was not suspended, unlike in the previous two incidents where he faced the possibility of being banned for the remainder of the season.

Let’s review the season’s game-related antics that Green was involved in.

Draymond Green’s on-court discipline in the 2023-24 NBA season

#1: Analyzing Donovan Mitchell’s Controversial Foul

During the season, Draymond Green’s first ejection occurred early on when he responded to a rough foul by Donovan Mitchell during the Warriors’ game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Mitchell appeared to push Green, prompting Green to engage in trash-talking. As a result, the referees assessed him with a technical foul. Despite receiving one earlier in the game, Green was ejected, although he did not face any further disciplinary action.

#2: Falling short against Rudy Gobert’s defense

During a tense moment with Utah Jazz star Rudy Gobert, Draymond Green was ejected from the game, marking his first ejection of the season. As a consequence, Green received a five-game suspension.

#3: The controversial foul call on Jusuf Nurkic

Despite not much time passing, Green found himself being ejected once again for hitting Jusuf Nurkic with force during the match-up between the Warriors and the Phoenix Suns.

Due to the fact that it was a repeated offense resembling the Gobert incident, Joe Dumars, the head of basketball operations for the NBA, made the decision to hand down a harsh punishment to Green by banning him indefinitely. However, Green’s suspension was lifted after only 13 games when he chose to seek counseling.

#4: Confronting Ray Acosta

Shortly after, Green was ejected during the game against the Orlando Magic.

After referee Ray Acosta called a foul on Andrew Wiggins, Green engaged in a heated exchange with him. However, Acosta grew tired of Green’s complaints and issued a double technical, resulting in yet another ejection for Green.

Despite being spared a ban this time, Green’s actions still managed to draw the ire of Dumars once again.
