Drake has made headlines following a recent speech he delivered at a party in Toronto on October 5, 2024. This event is thought to further fuel his ongoing rivalry with Kendrick Lamar, particularly since both rappers had engaged in a series of diss tracks aimed at one another earlier in the year.
Renowned as Drizzy, Drake addressed the issue of fake friends during his speech, which appeared to allude to those siding with Lamar. The speech ignited a wave of responses across various platforms, prompting Charlamagne Tha God to share his thoughts on The Breakfast Club on October 7, 2024.
A video capturing Drizzy’s remarks has been circulating widely, with Charlamagne labeling it as “one of the top three most beige moments in light-skin history.”He went on to commend Lamar for his approach in the ongoing feud, noting its effect on Drake:
“Drake is clearly in pain! Oh my God! He is hurt! You can’t unfollow a bunch of people and then take the stage to lament about not having any true friends or whatever that emotional moment was, referencing Beyonce’s ‘Me, Myself & I.’ Kendrick Lamar truly had a profound impact on Drake,”he stated.
During his address at the Toronto event, dubbed Nostalgia, Drake emphasized that he was surrounded by his “real friends,”and encouraged attendees to be prepared for moments of solitude.
“But I’m going to tell you, there will come a time in life when people you believed to be friends, or those you thought were close, may change. They might turn against you, betray you, or cause you significant harm,”he elaborated.
Future Documentary to Explore Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s Feud
As previously mentioned, Drake has been embroiled in a conflict with Kendrick Lamar this year, which sparked after the former released the collaborative track “First Person Shooter”with J. Cole last October. Lamar responded by taking aim at the pair in Metro Boomin’s “Like That.”
In April, Drake countered with two diss tracks titled “Push Ups”and “Taylor Made Freestyle,”both directed at Lamar. Kendrick shot back with “Euphoria,”and their back-and-forth continued with multiple tracks, including “6:16 in LA,””Family Matters,””Meet the Grahams,”and “Not Like Us.”
Additionally, Channel 4 announced an upcoming documentary titled “Public Enemies: Kendrick vs Drake”on October 8, 2024, set to delve into their rivalry. This announcement was confirmed by Deadline, which noted the documentary will feature interviews with those close to both artists over the years.
The film is expected to examine the successful careers of both Lamar and Drake, highlighting their journeys within the music industry. However, an official release date for the documentary has yet to be disclosed.
Produced by Acme Films and GroupM Motion Entertainment, the documentary will be led by Shaminder Nahal, Channel 4’s Head of Specialist Factual, who remarked that the film would investigate “two of the most influential voices in contemporary music.”Nahal further expressed:
“This documentary will explore Kendrick and Drake’s distinct paths, scrutinizing how their backgrounds, skills, and aspirations have established them as global icons.”
This latest documentary announcement follows a previous Channel 4 project, “Public Enemies: Jay-Z v Kanye,”which explored the feud between Drizzy and Jay-Z approximately seven years ago.
