Once you have successfully gathered the Six Orbs and hatched Ramia the Everbird, you are ready to venture into Baramos’s Lair in the Dragon Quest 3 Remake. This dungeon serves as a key milestone in your adventure, testing your skills before you descend into the more perilous areas of the game. This comprehensive guide will assist you in locating and successfully navigating through Baramos’s Lair in the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake.
Baramos’s Lair functions as the domain of the Archfiend Baramos, the principal antagonist during the first portion of the Dragon Quest 3 Remake. Accessibility to this dungeon relies on unlocking Ramia the Everbird, which allows you to soar into the surrounding valley. It is highly recommended that your Hero reaches a minimum level of 20 before embarking on this formidable challenge. Inside Baramos’s Lair, you will find several crucial items, which will be elaborated upon in the sections below.
Navigating to Baramos’s Lair in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
After conquering the Maw of the Necrogond and acquiring the Silver Orb, you are prepared to unlock the Everbird. You can fly to Baramos’s Lair directly from either the Shrine of the Everbird or the Necrogond Shrine.
To locate Baramos’s Lair, head north from the Necrogond Shrine, where you’ll encounter an island enveloped by mountains—this is your destination. Position Ramia precisely above this area to be safely dropped off at the dungeon’s entrance. Proceed northward to enter the dungeon.
Baramos’s Lair Guide – Dragon Quest 3 Remake
Upon entering Baramos’s Lair in the DQ3 Remake, you’ll quickly notice that this dungeon diverges from the typical structure of major dungeons in the game. Expect to navigate through a blend of indoor and outdoor environments, all leading toward the final encounter with Archfiend Baramos.
The initial locale upon entering is referred to as Baramos’s Lair – Surroundings. This outdoor central hub serves as the point of return whenever you exit any of the interlinked structures. Thus, we will detail the most direct route to the boss chamber while specifying the treasure locations on each subsequent floor.
Path to the Baramos Boss Fight:
- Step 1: Upon entering Baramos’s Lair from the overworld, bypass the main entrance leading to the ‘Entrance’ area. Instead, navigate around the eastern perimeter of the castle toward the northeast pool.
- Step 2: When arriving at the stairs leading to the pool, turn left and progress westward until you reach another staircase. Ascend these stairs and enter the door on your right.
- Step 3: You will find yourself in the Eastern Tower. Ascend to the uppermost level and exit through the door.
- Step 4: On the castle roof, as shown on the Surroundings map, traverse southwest across the rooftop and descend via the stairs to a lower level. Continue west and traverse the double wall openings on the northwest roof, making use of the stairway in the northwest corner.
- Step 5: Descending the NW stairs leads you to the Central Tower. Move towards the stairs in the southwest corner, employing the Safe Passage spell to navigate through the electrified floor. Descend into what we shall refer to as B1 Passageway A.
- Step 6: Inside B1 Passageway A, opt to continue south or turn towards the east. Navigate eastward, reaching the stairs at the far eastern side of the map.
- Step 7: Enter the South-East Tower. You will find yourself positioned in the southeastern area of the South-East Tower map. Continue northeast to the sole available stairs and climb to the roof. Traverse westward on the roof momentarily before descending yet again, leading to the western section of the South-East Tower map. Cross the grassy area heading northwest and through the only accessible door.
- Step 8: The door leads to a small section in the northeast part of the Central Tower. There will be a single exit not far from your point of entry.
- Step 9: Exiting the Central Tower a second time brings you to B1 Passageway B, a long corridor with singular entrance and exit points. Proceed north until you reach the stairs.
- Step 10: Upon entering the Throne Room, travel to the southern edge to exit while avoiding the perilous floor panels.
- Step 11: Exiting the Throne Room places you back on the Surroundings map. The Throne Room is located within the large northwest structure. Move east towards the building in the northeast, which is perched on an island in the lake—this is Baramos’s Den, where the climactic battle will transpire.

The Surroundings map also features one of Dragon Quest III Remake’s Friendly Monsters—specifically an Armful, named Armstrong in our experience.
Central Tower Treasures:

- Treasure 2: Dragon Mail
South-East Tower Treasures:
- Treasure 1 (Chest): Hapless Helm
- Treasure 2 (Chest): Sage’s Elixir
- Treasure 3 (Chest): Headsman’s Axe
- Treasure 4 (Chest): Zombiesbane
To access the three Treasure Chests in the SE segment of the South-East Tower map, make your way to the Central Tower section (refer to the aforementioned steps if uncertain). From there, exit through the door in the Southeast corner, proceed east along the rooftop, descent down the stairs, and you will arrive at the platform containing the treasure chests.
B1 Passageway Treasures:
- Treasure 1 (Buried): Mini Medal (located on the left side of the skeleton)
To reach this area, navigate to the northern zone of the Entrance map. Look for a staircase leading west to a lower level and east to a higher level; take the western staircase to emerge on the western side of what will henceforth be called B1 Passageway C (to avoid mix-ups with other sections sharing the same name).

- Treasure 1 (Buried): Mini Medal (found in front of the throne)
Strategies for Defeating Baramos – Dragon Quest 3 Remake
The initial encounter with Baramos in the DQIII Remake is likely to present the toughest opposition you have faced thus far. Like many challenging bosses, an effective strategy along with proper character leveling is essential for victory.
What Are Baramos’s Weaknesses in Dragon Quest 3 Remake?
Understanding Baramos’s vulnerabilities is crucial for crafting an effective battle strategy. Baramos is particularly weak against the following spells:
- Crack (including all ice-based spells)
- Woosh (includes all wind-based spells)
Importantly, Baramos shows no weakness to Zap or any of its variants. By this stage, you should be equipped with higher-level spells such as Kacrack and Swoosh. Since the Hero cannot cast these spells, either prioritize healing while allowing your spell casters to focus on offense or consider using Gust Slash.
Make sure that at least one character is dedicated exclusively to healing. Baramos can inflict massive damage quickly, even against a well-leveled party. Consistent healing during each round is essential, as focusing on quick damage is less beneficial compared to ensuring the survival of your team.
