This announcement stemmed from a survey conducted among 181 individuals from the Japanese gaming sector, as featured in the esteemed Weekly Famitsu magazine.

In this poll, the runner-up position was claimed by Sony Interactive Entertainment and Team Asobi’s exclusive PlayStation 5 title, Astro Bot, which celebrated its victory as Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024. Following closely in third place is Metaphor: ReFantazio, a multiplatform RPG developed by Atlus. For context, the leading titles in the 2023 rankings included The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Final Fantasy XVI, and Super Mario Bros Wonder.

In a statement from Hiroko Saga, the editor-in-chief of Weekly Famitsu, it was highlighted that the HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest 3 successfully drew in a younger audience, alongside retaining its devoted long-time fans since its initial release on the Family Computer (NES) back in 1988. The original title is widely considered the most beloved installment in the series, frequently topping public polls across Japan.
