It raises questions why all Supreme Kais come from one singular race, especially when their counterparts, the Gods of Destruction, exhibit a variety of forms. The only exceptions among the Gods of Destruction are Beerus and Champa, twin brothers hailing from Universes 7 and 6. This suggests that individuals from different races can attain the title of God of Destruction if deemed worthy. So, why is the same flexibility not seen among the multiverse’s Supreme Kais?

However, the decision to choose Glinds merits further examination.
While explicit reasoning remains elusive, it can be inferred from the Supreme Kais’ designated roles. As creators, they serve to balance the destructive forces represented by the Gods of Destruction. The Supreme Kais are responsible for cultivating life and establishing worlds, which suggests a strong correlation between their unique abilities and the act of creation.
The rarity of beings capable of bringing entire worlds into existence likely underscores why Supreme Kais are exclusively Glinds. Nevertheless, this remains a theory that might evolve with future episodes of Dragon Ball Daima.
It’s important to note the lack of depiction of Supreme Kais actively creating worlds in both the show and manga. While Akira Toriyama in Chōzenshū 1 mentions their capacity to create life, the actual manifestation of such abilities hasn’t been demonstrated.

Achieving the title of God of Destruction, however, necessitates significant training and strength, making it a formidable challenge, akin to the responsibilities bestowed upon a Supreme Kai.

Being a Glind does not automatically qualify one for the role of Supreme Kai across the twelve universes. The pool of potential candidates has likely diminished due to the extinction of the Glind trees that once spawned them, as highlighted in episode 10 of Dragon Ball Daima. Historically, Glinds developed from one of five Glind Trees, producing offspring approximately every few centuries, yet they can live for thousands to millions of years, according to the Supreme Exciting Guide.

What distinguishes certain Glinds as candidates for Supreme Kais? Notably, Glinds fall into two categories based on their fruit origins: those from common fruits and those from the rarer golden fruits. Only Glinds from golden fruits are eligible for the Supreme Kai title. Nonetheless, discrepancies exist regarding how replacements are assigned. The Super Exciting Guide asserts that a Glind born from a golden fruit must become a Supreme Kai. However, Dragon Ball Super reveals that Gowasu, the Supreme Kai of Universe 10, has been training his successor, Zamasu, who temporarily assumes the role of Supreme Kai to utilize a Time Ring.
Understanding the Role of Minor Kais
Beyond Supreme Kais, Glinds also fulfill roles as minor Kais, including figures like King Kai and the supervising Grand Kai. Although these minor Kais may exhibit less humanoid traits and possess features such as whiskers and antennae, they, too, originate exclusively from Glinds. The four directional Kais of Universe 7 all have antennae, while North Kai is characterized by whiskers, suggesting different physical traits based on their fruit origin—those from regular fruits appear slightly different than their golden fruit counterparts.
The selection for minor Kais involves a lottery system drawing lots from the Glinds residing on Kaishin when a current Kai passes away. However, this raises questions about King Kai’s situation. Despite King Kai’s death several years prior in Dragon Ball Super, no alternative has been appointed as the North Kai. It’s plausible that the process of replacing a Kai is substantially delayed due to their extensive lifespans, leading to a perception of time that differs from shorter-lived beings. An alternative possibility is that minor Kais are afforded a specific timeframe to complete their duties, allowing King Kai to “finish his term,”even in death.
