Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima, Episode 13, “Surprise”, are included in the following content. This episode is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
Dragon Ball Daima sees Goku and the Z Fighters delving into the mysterious layers of the Demon Realm, where they encounter some of the realm’s mightiest entities. Previously, the focus was primarily on powerful beings such as the Tamagami, Kraken, or Majin Duu, the latter of which was a creation of Marba. However, new revelations indicate that the most perilous creatures are those that belong to the planets Mega and Giga, classified as the Megaths and Gigaths.
Set between the storylines of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super, the strongest adversary encountered by the Z Fighters in prior episodes was Majin Buu. This situation is now poised to shift dramatically with the emergence of the Megaths and Gigaths.
Understanding the Megaths
The Second Strongest Race in the Demon Realm

The Megaths inhabit Mega, a massive planet located within the Second Demon World. Characterized by their orange skin and pronounced pointy ears typical of Demon Realm inhabitants, they stand as emblematic giants—a testament to size and strength in their own realm. To illustrate their immense proportions, Goku and his allies appear tiny compared to the very blades of grass on Planet Mega.
Assessing the Megaths’ Strength

The Megaths possess immense power, suggesting they could potentially overpower the Demon King and seize control of the Demon Realm. A statement from Neva indicates that even the Demon King and the Gendarmerie avoid Mega due to the Megaths’ intimidating presence. Nevertheless, their laid-back culture prevents them from pursuing dominance, as confirmed by Shin, who notes their disinterest in such power plays.
“The Megaths are a laid-back race and aren’t interested in such things”- Supreme Kai Shin on why the Megaths don’t take over the Demon Realm.
While the full extent of their power remains ambiguous, as only a child Megath has been showcased thus far, evidence hints that even adults are formidable enough to hunt Kraken successfully— a delicacy widely available in Mega. Remarkably, Goku himself noted that he and his companions, despite their powers, would struggle against a Kraken, indicating that an average adult Megath is likely stronger than both Goku and the mighty Tamagami.
Possible References to Other Giant Races

Dragon Ball Daima thrives on intertwining elements from its extensive history, sometimes including nods to earlier series. The Megaths appear to mirror a giant from Dragon Ball GT who famously got a Black Star Dragon Ball lodged in his tooth during episode 6, “Like Pulling Teeth.”Both characters share features such as bald heads, orange skin, and pointed ears. This homage highlights Akira Toriyama’s unique character designs and reflects the conscious effort to connect new narratives with established lore.
Discovery of the Gigaths
The Most Powerful Race in the Demon Realm

The Gigaths, residing on the planet Giga, are shrouded in mystery regarding their location within the Demon Realm—whether they exist within the Second Demon World or elsewhere remains uncertain. Neva’s insights reveal that the Gigaths are larger and presumed much more formidable than the Megaths, potentially posing a significant challenge even to Majin Buu.
While the exact appearance of the Gigaths is still undisclosed, their designation implies astonishing size; given that “giga”represents “billion”compared to “mega,”which signifies “million,”it suggests that Gigaths could be approximately 1,000 times larger than their Megath counterparts. This estimation certainly aligns with the Dragon Ball franchise’s penchant for outrageous power scaling.
Can Gigaths Be Considered the Largest Beings in Dragon Ball?

In literal terms, even if the Gigaths are hypothesized to be 1,000 times the size of the Megaths, they still would not dethrone Super Shenron from that title. The Eternal Dragon from Dragon Ball Super is capable of expanding to dimensions that overshadow entire galaxies, solidifying its place as the unparalleled giant of the series. Even postulating that a Gigath could match the size of an Earth-like planet, they wouldn’t nearly reach the scale of the most immense creatures in the Dragon Ball narrative.
Episodes of Dragon Ball Daima can now be streamed on Crunchyroll and Netflix. The next installment, episode 15, is scheduled to premiere on January 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM PT.
