Dragon Ball Daima aims to refresh the iconic series by giving a new life to the character Majin Buu. Historically recognized as one of the most fearsome adversaries of the Z Fighters, Majin Buu’s nature has always been shrouded in mystery. Questions surrounding his very essence, creation, and ultimate purpose have intrigued fans for years. Whereas characters like Piccolo and Frieza have well-defined histories, Buu’s past has remained elusive, until now.
Majin Buu’s Previous Origin Story
He Was Either Bibidi’s Creation or a Primordial Entity
In Dragon Ball Z, episode 219 named “Energy Drain,” the origins of Majin Buu were narrated by the Supreme Kai Shin and his assistant Kibito. They explained that an evil wizard named Bibidi was responsible for Buu’s creation. While there is some disagreement in lore, Bibidi is often depicted as either a father or a clone to Babidi, who subsequently revived Buu.
This backstory has undergone revisions over the years. In an interview featured in Dragon Ball Full Color: Majin Buu Arc Q&As, creator Akira Toriyama reflected on Buu’s nature, describing him as an ancient being, akin to a force of nature that destructively roamed the universe before retreating into hibernation, resembling Beerus, the God of Destruction. However, with the advent of Dragon Ball Daima, Buu’s history takes another significant turn.
Majin Buu’s New Origin Story
He Was Created by a Demon Realm Witch
In the most recent episode of Dragon Ball Daima, viewers learn that Majin Buu was crafted by a Demon Realm witch named Marba at Bibidi’s behest. However, Marba views Buu as a failed experiment, as he displayed far more evil and uncontrollable traits than expected. Following his creation, Buu reportedly wreaked havoc in the Demon Realm, prompting the Glinds—creators of the Supreme Kais—to depart.
Dr. Arinsu notes, “I know the truth. All he (Bibidi) did was come to you and ask you to make Buu. Bibidi never had that sort of ability.”This insertion of a new character raises pivotal questions. Why did Bibidi desire such a destructive being? Bibidi’s apparent motive was to eliminate the Supreme Kais, although his deep-seated animosity remains unexplained. Additionally, how did Bibidi come to know Marba? This invites speculation about the origins of Bibidi and Babidi and their potential connections to the Demon Realm.
Where Is Majin Buu in Dragon Ball Daima?
He Hasn’t Had an Important Role Yet
Despite the renewed focus on Majin Buu’s origin story, his presence in Dragon Ball Daima has been surprisingly sparse. His sole appearance to date occurs in episode 2, “Glorio,”where a young version of Buu briefly races past significant characters like Mr. Satan, Goku, and Vegeta. He also appears in the series’ opening sequence. Although his shapeshifting abilities may allow him to revert to his original form, viewers are left wondering if he will take center stage in future episodes.
It would undoubtedly be fascinating to see Marba’s reaction to the Buu who has become a beloved ally to the Z Fighters. Would she be dismayed that her violent creation evolved into a peaceful character, or could she view this outcome as the ideal manifestation of her powerful being? The dynamics unfold in compelling ways as Dragon Ball Daima continues its narrative journey.
