Note: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima, Episode 12, titled “True Strength,”are included in the following content. The episode is currently available on Crunchyroll.
Historically, Majin Buu has been recognized as the only member of his species. However, significant changes unfolded in Dragon Ball Daima episode 9, titled “Thieves,”with the introduction of Majin Kuu. Shortly thereafter, episode 11 brought forth another sibling character, Majin Duu. While these new characters share common traits with Buu, they also exhibit notable differences from their pink progenitor.
In episode 8, “Tamagami,”it was disclosed that Kid Buu was created by a Majin witch named Marba, both distancing this narrative from Babidi’s father, Bibidi. Following this revelation, Marba crafted additional artificial Majins using Buu’s essence under the influence of a mysterious entity named Arinsu. This new development culminated in the creation of Majin Kuu and Duu. Interestingly, although there are non-canon characters from Majin Buu’s species in various games like Xenoverse and Dragon Ball FighterZ, Kuu and Duu are the first canonically recognized characters that possess Buu’s DNA.
The Saibamen Connection in Majin Kuu and Duu
The Saibamen That Defeated Yamcha
While Majin Kuu and Duu hail from Buu’s essence, they also appear to embody characteristics from other species, particularly the Saibamen. This genetic infusion accounts for their vibrant green coloring. Notably, Majin Kuu’s design leans more towards a Saibaman than a traditional Majin Buu look. Marba hinted at variations in how Kuu and Duu were conceived, suggesting that modifications were made to ensure they would embody more loyalty and obedience than the chaotic nature of Majin Buu. This evolution in their genetic makeup likely contributes to their striking differences in appearance compared to Buu himself.
Majin Duu’s Similarities with Buu
Majin Duu presents a design and personality that closely mirrors that of Fat Buu, and this resemblance can likely be attributed to the larger quantity of Buu’s essence utilized in his creation. Duu possesses features reminiscent of Fat Buu, such as his plump body, distinctive antennae, and the steam vents around his head. However, much remains under question—most notably, whether Duu retains Buu’s ability to revert to his iconic bubble gum form or utilize his antenna to transform others into candy. Clear distinctions exist between them; for instance, Duu’s green hue and the characteristic pointed ears common to Demon Realm Majins, set him apart from Fat Buu’s pink complexion and crater-shaped ears.
Comparing the Power of Majin Kuu and Duu to Kid Buu
Newcomers’ Strength Comparison
At present, it appears that neither Majin Kuu nor Duu matches the formidable strength of Kid Buu. However, Majin Duu, deemed the stronger of the two, might find his strength on par with Good Buu or Fat Buu, considering his recent display of power. Duu has effortlessly defeated Tamagami, creatures suspected to surpass the former Demon King, Daburah. His only moment of difficulty arose from personal hunger, yet that didn’t impede him from maintaining dominance over his opponent. This performance suggests that Duu’s prowess may align him with a strength equivalent to Goku’s Super Saiyan 2 form in the Buu Saga, albeit this claim must be made cautiously due to the assumed limitations of the Daburah faced by Duu, who lacked Babidi’s influence. Thus, the ultimate potential of Majin Duu remains a tantalizing mystery worthy of anticipation within the series.
The formation of Majin Duu incorporates a deeper planting of the Saibamen seed—twenty centimeters into Marba’s cauldron—compared to just five centimeters for Majin Kuu. Marba voiced her concerns about this decision, insinuating that it risked hard-to-control traits akin to Kid Buu’s nature. Nonetheless, Arinsu opted for it, reasoning that creating a Majin weaker than the Tamagami would render the endeavor futile. Thankfully, this gamble yielded favorable results.
“Twenty centimeters?! That’s quite the gamble. If it goes berserk, things could get very bad.”- Marba regarding Arinsu’s choice to plant the Saibamen seed deeper.
On the contrary, Majin Kuu falls short when measured against formidable adversaries, including Tamagami Number One, which positions him near Daburah’s level or potentially lower. Nevertheless, Kuu showcases high intellect, compensating for his physical shortcomings. After Duu’s victory over Tamagami Number One, he faced a follow-up challenge involving rapid calculations. Without Kuu’s swift mental arithmetic, Duu would have likely faltered.
For fans eager to catch up, Dragon Ball Daima is streaming on both Crunchyroll and Netflix. Episode 13 is anticipated to release on January 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM PT.
