Warning: The following contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima, Episode 10, “Ocean”, now streaming on Crunchyroll.
In the latest installment of Dragon Ball Daima, Goku encounters a formidable challenge from the Tamagami, the guardians of the Dragon Balls situated in the Demon Realm. These three formidable protectors stand in each of the three Demon Worlds, preventing potential wish-makers from claiming the Dragon Balls. Crafted by the Namekian named Neva, the Tamagami were specifically designed to safeguard these powerful orbs, effectively halting any wishes for an extended period.
Previously, Goku clashed with Tamagami Number Three in episode 8, titled “Tamagami,”who guarded the Three-Star Dragon Ball in the Third Demon World. Despite Goku’s childhood form complicating matters, he triumphed with his Super Saiyan 2 abilities. However, this raises questions about the true power of the Tamagami. How do they stack up against Goku’s previous adversaries?
They’re Stronger than Dabura
King Gomah’s Predecessor Battled and Fell to the Tamagami
Thus far, the most notable challenger against the Tamagami, apart from Goku, is the former Demon King, Dabura. In episode 7, “Collar,”Panzy mentioned that Dabura was unable to defeat the Tamagami and secure the Dragon Balls. This is further corroborated by King Gomah’s assertion in the series’ first episode, signifying the Dragon Balls have remained wish-free for an extended duration.
This establishes that the Tamagami surpass Dabura in strength. But how do they rank within the broader context of Dragon Ball’s power hierarchy? In Dragon Ball Z episode 227, “Heart of a Villain,”Goku remarked that Dabura’s ki was comparable to Cell’s.
It is essential to note that Goku assessed Dabura under Babidi’s control, which not only compelled obedience but significantly increased power levels, as seen with multiple characters like Spopovich and Majin Vegeta. This enhancement implies that the Dabura who faced the Tamagami was certainly weaker than the Dabura Goku sensed. While the exact extent of Babidi’s power-boosting effect is ambiguous, it does not appear excessive, as Vegeta was roughly on par with Goku’s Super Saiyan 2 form even while under Babidi’s influence. Hence, if the Tamagami are indeed stronger than Dabura sans Babidi’s enhancements, they must be at least equivalent to Cell’s power level.
Insights into Goku’s Strength in Daima Through the Tamagami
From the onset of Dragon Ball Daima, there are implications that Goku and his fellow Z Fighters have not retained their former strength in their juvenile bodies. Given Goku’s victory over an opponent likened to a past villain, it becomes clearer how formidable he remains in his new form.
It appears that Goku’s abilities, and by extension, those of the Z Fighters, have not diminished significantly. Triumphing over an adversary stronger than Dabura using only Super Saiyan 2 suggests proximity to Goku’s power during the Majin Buu Saga. Since Daima is set several months to a year after the Buu Saga’s events, Goku’s strength should be even greater, indicating that while being transformed into a child may have reduced his power slightly, it was not as debilitating as King Gomah had hoped.
Indeed, one of the primary challenges stemming from their regression to childhood is likely the restrictions in reach due to their smaller physique, along with the need to readjust to certain ki techniques. However, the fundamental amount of ki within them appears to have only slightly diminished.
They Might Be Holding Back
Considering the Power of Tamagami Number Three
Despite their apparent strength, it raises a question whether the Tamagami are actually holding back during their encounters. Notably, during Goku’s battle with Tamagami Number Three, the guardian implored Goku to cease his assault after receiving a hit from his Kamehameha. Although visibly injured, there was an unusual quality to this exchange. The request to halt followed his comprehension of Goku’s capabilities, indicating that Tamagami might be restricted to fighting at certain thresholds. Additionally, Tamagami Number Three displayed the capability to repair his weapon but chose not to, seemingly as a means to evaluate Goku’s skills without a weapon during their scuffle.
“I admit it! I submit!… There’s no point in continuing further. I understand your power.” – Tamagami Number Three to Goku
Potentially Greater Power of Tamagami Number Two and One
Even though the narrative and tone in Dragon Ball Daima differ significantly from earlier series, the principle of escalating threats remains intact. It would not be surprising if Tamagami Number Three is the weakest amongst the trio, with Numbers Two and One presenting a drastically higher level of strength.
In episode 10 of Dragon Ball Daima, viewers witnessed Tamagami Number One’s capabilities as it easily overpowered a character embodying qualities of Majin Buu. While this could suggest that Majin Kuu is simply weaker than anticipated, it leans towards the possibility that both Tamagami Number One and Two surpass Number Three in strength.
Dragon Ball Daima is currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll and Netflix. Fans can look forward to episode 11, set to air on December 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM PT.
