Dragon Age The Veilguard: Connecting Keyboard and Mouse on Your Steam Deck

The highly anticipated RPG, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, has recently launched across multiple platforms, including the popular Steam Deck. A notable improvement for players is that this title operates natively on Steam, a departure from previous EA titles that required the use of EA Play. Although this is optimistic news for Steam Deck users, some gamers have reported challenges with keyboard and mouse support while playing.

How to Enable Keyboard and Mouse Support for Dragon Age: The Veilguard on Steam Deck

Since its inception in 2022, Steam Deck has touted its ability to run any game available on Steam. Nonetheless, the device’s compact form and specific design can lead to performance inconsistency, particularly with certain titles that may encounter issues like overheating or other hardware limitations. Fortunately, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is officially recognized for compatibility with the Steam Deck and generally functions well on this handheld console.

“We’re making great progress towards our fall launch date and can confirm early that #DragonAge: The Veilguard is going all-in on @Steam features! ⚔️ We’re verified on Steam Deck. ⚔️ We’ll be Steam native – meaning the EA App will not be required to play the game.”

Despite its overall smooth performance, many gamers face difficulties when trying to utilize keyboard and mouse peripherals on the Steam Deck. Although the device does support these inputs, the game may default to recognizing only the controller layout. To rectify this situation, follow these steps:

  • Launch the Steam application on your Steam Deck.
  • Navigate to your Library and right-click on the game tile for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
  • Select Properties, then go to the General tab.
  • At the bottom of the Properties tab, locate Launch Options.
  • Edit Launch Options and paste the following command: SteamDeck=0 %command% --skip-launcher.

After completing these instructions, you should be able to successfully use the keyboard and mouse while playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard on your Steam Deck. Please be aware that while handheld mode limits gameplay to 720p, players can enjoy resolutions of 1080p and 4K in docked mode. Additionally, although Steam Deck allows for cross-progression, it is essential to note that Dragon Age: The Veilguard does not support this feature.
