After a lengthy hiatus since Dr. Stone: New World, fans can eagerly anticipate the fourth and final season of Dr. Stone, set to debut on January 9, 2025. The series will be available for streaming on Crunchyroll and is structured in three cours, totaling 36 episodes. This upcoming season is set to adapt volumes 17 through 27 of the manga, following the adaptation of volumes 11 to 16 in season three. If the episode count falls below 30, the storytelling may feel hurried.

In addition to previous seasons, a one-off episode titled Dr. Stone: Ryusui aired in 2022. Though a standalone, this episode adapts essential chapters 84-89 and introduces the character Ryusui Nanami, the heir to a maritime conglomerate, enriching the overall narrative.

For new viewers, Dr. Stone begins in 2019, a time which was a near future during its serialization starting in 2017. A mysterious event petrifies all human life, including protagonist Senku Ishigami. Fast forward 3,700 years, Senku awakens to a world devoid of civilization and is determined to uncover a remedy for petrification.

After several months, Senku is joined by his friend Taiju Oki. Together, they discover that nitric acid has the potential to revive others, driving Senku to establish a new society rooted in scientific principles. However, they face opposition from Tsukasa Shishio, one of the first humans revived, who advocates for a world founded on strength, ready to challenge anyone that stands in his way.

The story evolves into a narrative of “science versus power,”showcasing the rivalry between Senku and Tsukasa as they each build their kingdoms. The plot thickens as various kingdoms emerge, all the while maintaining the overarching mystery of the petrification linked to a peculiar green light.

Throughout the series, Dr. Stone creatively introduces scientific principles and historical references, promising to take viewers on expeditions including a journey to America and a venture to the moon in this final season.

The animation series TMS Entertainment has produced every installment of Dr. Stone, with varying studios throughout the seasons. Seasons one and two were animated by 8PAN, while Die4Studio took over for the third season, which also saw a new director, Shuhei Matsushita, step in for Shinya Iino. Matsushita is confirmed to return for season four, as per MyAnimeList.

The head writer, Yuichiro Kido, has contributed scripts for every season, though his involvement in season four is yet to be verified. Musical composition is once again in the capable hands of Tatsuya Kato, Hiroaki Tsutsumi, and Yuki Kanesaka.
