The Windows 11 2024 Update, officially recognized as version 24H2, is now available for public download. Microsoft has initiated this rollout alongside exciting new AI-driven features that are set to be launched shortly for Windows Insiders using Copilot+ PCs and available Copilot upgrades.

In contrast to the recent updates for Windows 11, version 24H2 represents a complete operating system overhaul. As a result, the upgrade process will require more time than typical updates. However, the delivery method remains consistent: Microsoft is gradually making this update available to “seekers” running Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2. To access the update, navigate to the Settings app and manually initiate the request.

If you want to be among the early adopters of this update, head to Settings > Windows Update and enable the option for “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” . Following this, check for updates; if your system meets the eligibility criteria and there are no restrictions, the Settings app will permit you to download Windows 11 version 24H2. For further guidance, refer to our detailed guide on how to download Windows 11 version 24H2.

It is important to note that updating to Windows 11 version 24H2 necessitates the installation of the May 2024 non-security preview update or a more recent version. As is customary, you can also download the Windows 11 version 24H2 installation images from the official Microsoft site for a clean installation (note that BitLocker will be enabled by default on Home and Pro editions, though it can be disabled if desired).

The new features introduced in Windows 11 version 24H2 comprise updated context menus, enhancements to the Settings app, HDR wallpaper support, Wi-Fi 7 compatibility, redesigned battery saver and energy settings, revisions to the Quick Settings menu, and additional improvements.

Windows 11 version 24H2 will follow the typical 24-month support lifecycle for both Home and Pro editions. In contrast, Windows 11 LTSC 2024, which is also being released today, will benefit from a 10-year support lifecycle. For commercial users, version 24H2 can be accessed via WSUS, Windows Update for Business, and the Admin Center.
