If you’re considering a clean installation of Windows 11 24H2, now is an opportune moment. Microsoft has rolled out an updated Media Creation Tool (MCT) that not only facilitates an in-place upgrade retaining your personal files but also enables the creation of fresh Windows 11 version 24H2 media files.
Recent evaluations by WindowsLatest confirmed that the Media Creation Tool received its update just after the June 2025 cumulative update. This update allows users to download Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.4349, reflecting the most recent Patch Tuesday security updates, which were also made available to existing systems with the KB5060842 update.
It’s important to mention that Windows 11 KB5060842 had previously caused issues on systems running Fortnite and other Easy Anti-Cheat titles. This was subsequently addressed by an out-of-band release, KB5063060. Luckily, you should not encounter the same issues with the newly available Build 26100.4349 when using the MCT.

Addressing Bugs in Windows 11 24H2: How In-Place Upgrades Can Assist
Windows 11 24H2 was launched in October 2024 and has generally been perceived as a solid update, though it has displayed more bugs compared to its predecessor, the 23H2 version. While it has enhanced performance on some devices, other users, including myself, have experienced mixed results.
Looking ahead, we anticipate the release of Windows 11 25H2, expected to be more stable than the current version. However, for some, waiting until October 2025 for this update may not be feasible.
In the meantime, utilizing the Media Creation Tool for a clean installation of Windows 11 version 24H2 may improve your experience.
For those who may not be familiar, the Media Creation Tool does not entail a complete system wipe. Instead, it provides an option for an in-place repair or upgrade. By choosing to keep personal files, the MCT will reinstall the operating system while preserving your data.
Upon completion, a new folder, “Windows.old, ”will be created on the drive, containing an archive of user accounts, which remains until Windows storage cleanup or manual deletion occurs.
An in-place upgrade can rectify many installation issues, often resulting in a noticeable boost in system responsiveness. However, it’s worth noting that performance may decline again over time, necessitating eventual reinstallation.
Additionally, this process is relevant not only for those on Windows 11 24H2; if you’ve been using version 23H2, now is an ideal time to consider upgrading using the Media Creation Tool for a streamlined experience.
Microsoft has announced the end of support for Windows 11 23H2 on November 11, 2025, with some systems already initiating automatic upgrades to version 24H2.
Alternatively, you might consider waiting until October 2025 for Windows 11 25H2, at which point clean installations using fresh ISO files from Microsoft will be available. Notably, this latest MCT update also permits Windows 10 users to directly upgrade to Windows 11 24H2 with the June 2025 updates included.
