As previously noted, this update mainly addresses bug fixes stemming from earlier releases. One significant issue resolved pertains to users experiencing login failures while using SIM-type authentication on mobile connections, where the login screen would freeze.

Additionally, Microsoft addressed critical problems linked to Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) sessions. Although Microsoft plans to phase out RDP, users with multi-monitor configurations experienced system shutdowns if a monitor was disconnected during an RDP session. This has now been rectified.

Out-of-Band Update for Windows 11 24H2

In conjunction with this optional update, Microsoft has also rolled out an Out-of-Band (OOB) update for Windows 11 24H2 systems, aimed at urgently fixing issues, particularly those related to Microsoft Office applications and the SMB protocol for file sharing.

However, it’s noteworthy that the update does not address existing Digital Rights Management (DRM) issues discovered during the September Patch Tuesday release. Despite being flagged with a “confirmed”status on the official health page, these DRM problems persist.

The OOB update also resolves a specific issue involving Microsoft Office apps within Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) environments.

Resolved Bugs

Additionally, here are a few other previously troubling bugs that have been resolved:

Microsoft Edge experienced failures in Internet Explorer compatibility mode due to the introduction of same-domain redirects.
Attempts to check the printer queue in Settings for shared printers caused crashes in the user interface.

While the 23H2 version has benefitted from fixes, it is important to note that the OOB update for 24H2 did not resolve the SMB file sharing concerns.
