Sandboxie is a sandboxing software designed for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows NT-based operating systems. Developed by David Xanatos since its transition to open-source, it was previously owned by Sophos, which acquired it from Invincea, who had originally obtained it from the creator Ronen Tzur. This isolated virtual space allows for safe testing of untrusted software and web browsing activities.
Sandboxie comes in two versions: Plus and Classic. While both versions share the same core functionalities, including security and compatibility, they differ in user interface. The Plus version features a modern Qt-based UI, which accommodates all new features introduced since the project became open-source. Conversely, the Classic version has an outdated MFC UI that lacks support for these modern features, though they can still be manually configured in Sandboxie.ini.
