Microsoft Edge stands out as a remarkably fast and secure web browser developed by Microsoft. It is compatible with a variety of devices, including personal computers, iPhones, and Android smartphones. This browser prioritizes your online safety, guards your privacy, and facilitates rapid web browsing. Additionally, it allows seamless usage across all your devices, ensuring your browsing history and favorites are synchronized effortlessly.

Leveraging the same underlying technology as Chrome, Microsoft Edge boasts unique built-in capabilities, such as Startup Boost and Sleeping Tabs, which significantly enhance your browsing performance and speed, particularly optimized for Windows environments.

When it comes to security and privacy, Microsoft Edge offers features like Microsoft Defender SmartScreen, Password Monitor, InPrivate search, and Kids Mode to safeguard you and your family while surfing the web. You can activate content filters and review activity reports through your Microsoft Family Safety account, creating a safe online space with the Kids Mode feature.

The latest version of Microsoft Edge also supports your favorite extensions, simplifying the process of customizing your browsing experience.

Changelog:

Fixes

  • Resolved an issue that caused the briefcase icon to be absent on the edge://settings/sidebar page when the Edge Bar was turned off via the StandaloneHubsSidebarEnabled policy.
  • Addressed rendering issues reported on select SharePoint sites.

Announcements

  • Live Captions: Although the LiveCaptionsAllowed policy has been in place since version 103 of Microsoft Edge, this feature is not yet widely available. Organizations with the ExperimentationAndConfigurationServiceControl policy set to ‘FullMode’ may access this feature before it becomes broadly available, with updates to be announced in the Microsoft Edge release notes.
  • Cancel dialog for beforeunload event: Changes to the cancel dialog behavior for the beforeunload event will take effect in version 131. From this version onward, triggering event.preventDefault in a beforeunload event handler will not suppress the dialog. Instead, setting event.returnValue = ” will be necessary to stop the cancel dialog. The BeforeunloadEventCancelByPreventDefaultEnabled policy will be phased out after version 130.

Feature updates

  • Token Binding: Designed to enhance security by employing cryptographic certificates on both ends of the TLS connection to mitigate the risks associated with bearer tokens, Token Binding is now deprecated in version 130, along with the AllowTokenBindingForUrls policy.
  • Copilot browser Context Policies: The EdgeEntraCopilotPageContext policy will debut starting with version 130, superseding the deprecated CopilotCDPPageContext policy, which will become obsolete in Edge 133.
  • Improving navigability of settings: To streamline the process of locating browser settings, Microsoft Edge is implementing navigation enhancements in Edge Settings. No functionality change will occur, as all settings will remain on the same pages but will be organized into clickable sections for easier navigation.

These navigation improvements include:

  • Quick access to frequently used settings from the initial page users see upon entering Edge Settings (the Profiles page), allowing direct navigation to specific setting locations with a click.
  • Enhanced navigation on densely populated settings pages—like Privacy, search, and services—providing quick access to key actions that guide users directly to their desired settings.
  • Clickable “table of contents”sections for lengthy settings categories, complete with descriptive texts, enabling users to find settings directly without excessive scrolling.

Edge on macOS now opens links in Teams smoothly

  • When Microsoft Edge is set as the browser for web links in Teams, any links shared in Teams chat will open directly in Edge. The browser will launch using the profile that corresponds with the user’s authenticated identity, ensuring a cohesive browsing experience that integrates identity and user data across Microsoft applications. Administrators can manage access to this feature through the “Choose Which Browser Opens Web Links”policy within Microsoft 365.
