Minecraft has officially launched its native version for the PlayStation 5 today, marking a significant milestone for both the game and the console. After nearly four years since the PlayStation 5 debuted, players have eagerly awaited a version of Minecraft tailored specifically for this next-gen console. While it may initially appear that a dedicated version for a less demanding game is unnecessary, there are unique capabilities of the PS5 that Mojang Studios can leverage to enhance the gameplay experience.
Here’s all you need to know about the Minecraft version for PlayStation 5 and the exciting new features it offers.
Minecraft for PlayStation 5 Launches Today, October 22, 2024
Mojang Studios shared via an official blog post that Minecraft’s PlayStation 5 version is available for download as of October 22. Players can easily find and install the game from the official PlayStation Store by searching for Minecraft and selecting the PS5 edition.
Regarding pricing, both the PS4 and PS5 editions are available at $19.99. This pricing structure means that players who already have the PS4 version can upgrade to the PS5 version at no additional cost.
The PS5 version features significant enhancements, capitalizing on the console’s advanced hardware. Players can enjoy better rendering distances and experience Minecraft in stunning 4K resolution. Additionally, the game supports a smooth 60 frames per second at 4K, providing an unparalleled visual experience.
Players on all consoles will have access to the Bedrock edition, enabling them to install Marketplace add-ons, skin packs, and other content. This version also provides access to experimental features such as the Creaking mob, the Pale Garden biome, the Creaking Heart, and the Pale Oak tree.
For those who don’t currently own Minecraft, purchasing the game is necessary. Given that both console versions are priced identically, PS5 users should opt for the upgraded version to take advantage of the enhancements. It’s worth pointing out that this pricing consistency is notable, as many other games often exhibit disparities between consoles, typically with the PS4 version being slightly cheaper.
