Doubt Episode 9 Recap: Unveiling Sung-hee as Song Min-a’s Murderer Amidst the Twists

The gripping ninth episode of Doubt aired on November 9, 2024, on the MBC TV channel. This thrilling K-drama is composed of ten captivating episodes and features a stellar cast including Han Seok-kyu, Han Ye-ri, Chae Won-bin, and Oh Yeon-soo in leading roles.

In the previous installment, Park Joon-tae confessed to the murders of Yeong-min and Song Min-a, claiming it was to shield Sung-hee. A shocking development occurred when a photograph surfaced, depicting Ha-bin in close proximity to Yeong-min’s lifeless body, leading to her designation as a prime suspect in the ongoing murder investigation.

Episode 9 Recap: Ha-bin Anticipated Her Interrogation

During this latest episode of Doubt, tension mounted as Jang Tae-su interrogated Joon-tae, who struggled to recount the details surrounding Song Min-a’s murder. Joon-tae admitted his memory of the events was hazy, raising suspicions about his role in the crime.

While Joon-tae was questioned, Tae-su stepped out briefly, only to be confronted by Captain Oh Jeong-hwan, who presented him with the incriminating photograph of Ha-bin beside Yeong-min’s body. Consequently, Tae-su was sidelined from the case, and Ha-bin was summoned for her own round of questioning.

In a candid moment with his chief, Tae-su asserted that Joon-tae was likely innocent since he couldn’t remember critical incidents from the murder day. However, Captain Oh revealed that Joon-tae’s father, Jung Do-cheol, was blackmailing Tae-su, prompting a directive for him to distance himself from the investigation.

Returning home to fetch his daughter, Tae-su discovered that she had burned the clothes from the day of Yeong-min’s murder, which he had preserved as evidence. Meanwhile, police were alerted by Do-cheol, who accused Ha-bin of both Song Min-a and Yeong-min’s murders. Officer Oh countered his claims, noting that Joon-tae had already confessed, shocking Do-cheol as he admitted Ha-bin’s presence at Mount Daehwa during the time of Min-a’s death.

Further delving into Ha-bin’s alleged involvement, Detective Eo-jin carefully verified her alibi and discovered discrepancies: Ha-bin had left her supposed boyfriend and made her way to Mount Daehwa that night.

In the station, Ha-bin admitted she had kidnapped Yeong-min, injuring him but strongly denied any involvement in his murder. She claimed she was merely a witness to Min-a’s death, suggesting that it was Do-cheol who dismembered her body. Nevertheless, Ha-bin’s evasiveness during questioning raised further questions.

Tae-su, now excluded from the investigation, visited Sung-hee’s residence, separately interrogating her and her son Do-yun regarding their whereabouts on the fateful day of Min-a’s murder. While Sung-hee denied seeing Min-a, Do-yun’s conflicting statement sparked suspicions about Sung-hee’s innocence.

Capturing Do-yun’s statement on his phone, Tae-su presented the evidence to Captain Oh, prompting both of them to summon Sung-hee for further questioning.

In a shocking revelation, Do-yun confessed to being the one who killed Song Min-a. He claimed an innocent desire to impress her led to a tragic mistake with drugs, which he unintentionally mixed into her drink, ultimately causing her untimely death. Given that Do-yun was a minor and it was deemed an accidental death, he was released, leaving his mother and him to grapple with the aftermath.

Simultaneously, Ha-bin was also released as the investigation cleared her of involvement in Min-a’s murder. Just as Tae-su and Ha-bin were about to leave, a significant development unfolded when Eun-jin showed Eo-jin a video discovered on Yeong-min’s tablet, revealing Ji-su burying Lee Su-hyeon’s body.

As the narrative unfolded, Sung-hee arrived at Yeong-min’s hideout, where she was confronted by Do-cheol, who brandished a knife, threatening her not to implicate his son. Just as tensions escalated, the police arrived, although both managed to escape.

Soon after, Sung-hee returned to the police station with a bag full of Yeong-min’s belongings, including phones and cash, which she handed over as evidence. Among the items found was correspondence revealing Yeong-min’s scheme of blackmail directed at Ji-su regarding Lee Su-hyeon’s murder. This evidence pointed the finger back at Ha-bin, leading Captain Oh to pursue her arrest.

In a dramatic turn, Tae-su confronted Do-cheol, persuading him to surrender to the police for his son’s sake. Reluctantly, Do-cheol complied.

Meanwhile, Eo-jin made a startling discovery on Ha-bin’s laptop, uncovering folders packed with meticulous details about everyone linked to Yeong-min and Song Min-a’s tragic deaths, including sensitive information about police officials. One particular folder focused on Ha-bin’s father, Jang Tae-su, detailing case histories and all instances when she felt distrust from him. Her preparations indicated a chilling foresight into orchestrating the perfect crime.

Summoned for interrogation, Ha-bin faced Eo-jin and Captain Oh, who presented the evidence and linked her to Lee Su-hyeon’s murder. Despite their compelling narrative, Tae-su stood by Ha-bin, unable to accept his daughter’s implication. Captain Oh revealed that phone records confirmed Ha-bin’s presence at critical locations around the time of the murders, suggesting she had motives to eliminate anyone aware of her crimes.

As the episode drew to a close, Sung-hee was seen heading to a hotel room, where she deposited a significant amount of cash. The following day, Do-yun confronted his mother about the past, struggling with fragmented memories of the night that changed their lives. As Sung-hee recounted the chilling events of Song Min-a’s death, a flashback revealed the full extent of her crime—the poisoning and suffocation that claimed Min-a’s life.

In a dramatic twist, Do-yun’s recollection of that night came to the forefront, casting doubt on his mother’s narrative and igniting fear as he grappled with the truth of what transpired.

Fans eagerly await the season finale of Doubt, set to air on November 15, 2024. All episodes are available for streaming on Netflix, Wavve, and Coupang Play.
