NVIDIA Unveils Game-Changing RTX Technologies at CES 2025

During the CES 2025 event, NVIDIA made waves by introducing its new GeForce RTX Series GPUs alongside a suite of advanced RTX technologies set to enhance upcoming PC games. The highly anticipated title DOOM: The Dark Ages is among the first to leverage these innovations.

DOOM: The Dark Ages: A Visual Masterpiece

This medieval-themed first-person shooter from id Software is expected to launch later this year and will utilize the latest id Tech engine version. The game will feature full path tracing and the newly released DLSS 4, supporting Multi Frame Generation. Additionally, players can anticipate enhanced visuals through improved Ray Reconstruction, which will provide greater lighting stability and detail. Billy Khan, Director of Engine Technology at id Software, remarked on the significance of DLSS 4:

“With DLSS 4, we are stepping into a new era of gaming. The new ray reconstruction transformer model powers a historical leap in raytracing capabilities; not just accelerating performance but also enhancing visuals in DOOM: The Dark Ages.”

Launch Details and Broader Impact

While DOOM: The Dark Ages does not yet have a confirmed release date, it will be available on day one for PC, Xbox Series S|X, and PlayStation 5. Following suit, several upcoming titles such as The Witcher IV, Black State, and Dune: Awakening will also support the new RTX technologies, promising exciting enhancements for players.

Changing the Game Landscape

Kadir Demirden, CEO of Motion Blur (the studio behind Black State), stated:

“NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series and DLSS 4 are game-changing. We now have the power and technologies to realize the future of interactive storytelling with Black State.”

Similarly, Rui Casais, CEO of Funcom (developers of Dune: Awakening), expressed his enthusiasm:

Enhancements to Existing Titles

The innovation doesn’t stop with new releases. NVIDIA confirms that over 75 games will include day 0 support for these technologies, with popular titles from 2023 and 2024, such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Alan Wake 2, receiving significant updates.

Indiana Jones, in particular, will see enhancements including DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation and improved Ray Reconstruction. In addition, it will introduce a new RTX Hair technology. Jim Kjellin, CTO of MachineGames, shared:

“With GeForce RTX 50 Series, players will be able to experience Indiana Jones and the Great Circle at its best. With elevated image quality, performance, and new neural rendering tech like NVIDIA RTX Hair introduces a new level of character realism, truly adding to the immersion of becoming Indy.”

Future Updates Coming for Alan Wake 2

Alan Wake 2 will also benefit from the latest RTX advancements, including the new RTX Mega Geometry technology, which facilitates accelerated BVH building for cluster-based geometry systems. This enables the rendering of up to 100x more ray-traced triangles, significantly enhancing performance during intensely ray-traced scenarios. The game will also receive updates for DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation and upgraded Ray Reconstruction capabilities. As part of the next update, Remedy will unveil an Ultra quality Ray Tracing preset that includes fully ray-traced refractions and higher quality indirect lighting. Mika Vehkala, CTO at Remedy Entertainment, noted:

“With DLSS 4 and GeForce RTX 50 Series we are seeing significant performance gains which enable us to create new game worlds larger and more detailed than ever.”

What’s on the Horizon?

As the year progresses, gamers can look forward to further support for DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation in popular titles, including Black Myth: Wukong, Marvel Rivals, and NARAKA: Bladepoint. While the release dates for these updates vary, Marvel Rivals and NARAKA: Bladepoint are set to receive theirs next month.
