“Don’t text me, I am busy” – Coco Gauff clears her schedule for women’s NCAA March Madness games ft. Iowa’s Caitlin Clark vs LSU’s Angel Reese
Coco Gauff has shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming women’s NCAA basketball games on April 1st, which will feature matchups between Iowa Hawkeyes and LSU Tigers, as well as USC Trojans and UConn Huskies in the March Madness tournament.
Despite losing to 23rd seed Caroline Garcia 3-6, 6-1, 2-6 in the Round of 16, Gauff had a solid performance at the 2024 Miami Open. As the third seed, she received a bye into the second round where she defeated Argentine Nadia Podoroska 6-1, 6-2. In the third round, she continued her winning streak with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Oceane Dodin.
The American teamed up with fellow countrywoman Jessica Pegula for the doubles event. Although they were the fifth-seeded pair, they were eliminated in the early rounds by Sloane Stephens and Ashlyn Krueger with a score of 3-6, 6-1, 8-10. Stephens and Krueger then advanced to the quarterfinals where they were defeated by the second-seeded duo of Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe, who won the match 3-6, 6-4, 4-10.
The upcoming match between Iowa and LSU will be a repeat of the 2023 NCAA championship. Keep an eye on Iowa Hawkeyes’ Caitlin Clark and LSU Tiger’s Angel Reese as they are expected to shine in this game. The second game of the day will showcase a battle between the 11-time National Champion UConn Huskies and the rising USC Trojans program. USC is making their first appearance in the Elite Eight since 1994.
In her most recent Instagram post on Monday, April 1, Gauff kindly requested her followers to refrain from disturbing her while she watched the games being broadcasted.
“Don’t text me between 7pm – 11:00pm EST tonight. I am busy 🍿,”Gauff wrote on Instagram.
Coco Gauff sets sights on clay-court season with 2024 Stuttgart Open debut
At the age of only 18, Coco Gauff made her first appearance at the 2022 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, also known as the Stuttgart Open. Despite facing current World No. 11 Daria Kaatkina, Gauff was unable to advance and was eliminated from the tournament with a score of 4-6, 2-6.
In the doubles category, Gauff and her partner Zhang Shuai advanced to the final, but ultimately lost 3-6, 4-6 to Desirae Krawczyk and Demi Schuurs. Throughout the tournament, Gauff and Shuai defeated Nadiia Kichenok/Anastasia Rodionova, Paula Badosa/Aryna Sabalenka, and Shuko Aoyama/Hao Ching Chan before reaching the final.
In 2023, Gauff made her comeback to Stuttgart with a wealth of clay-court knowledge, having reached the final of the 2022 French Open, where she was defeated by the top-ranked Iga Swiatek with a score of 1-6, 3-6. As the fifth seed, the 20-year-old managed to secure a victory against Veronika Kudermetova in the first round, but ultimately fell to Anastasia Potapova in the Round of 16, losing 2-6, 3-6.
