“Don’t talk sh*t about promoters” – Oscar De La Hoya sends video message mocking Rolando Romero after TKO title loss
Formerly a boxing legend, Oscar De La Hoya, who is now a promoter, retaliated against Rolando Romero, the former WBA super lightweight, following his recent defeat.
In his initial super lightweight title defense on March 30, Romero faced off against 26-year-old Isaac Cruz. Despite his efforts, ‘Rolly’ was defeated by Cruz in the eighth round via TKO, marking only his second loss in his career.
De La Hoya publicly criticized Romero in a message he recorded and shared, condemning him for his knockout defeat and advising him to put more effort into his training instead of getting involved with promoters.
He stated:
“Rollys! You dumba**! Getting knocked out. Focus on your opponents instead of focusing on me. God damn it. All of the fighters, learn from Rollys. Don’t talk s**t about promoters. There’s only three of us in the world.”

Leading up to his match against Cruz, Romero had displayed a video to the media in which he appeared to mock De La Hoya and suggest that the retired boxer may use cocaine. This was a retaliation to De La Hoya’s mimicking of Romero’s fighting techniques and taunting him. In the end, it was De La Hoya who emerged victorious, having the final word.

Former UFC Champion Georges St-Pierre Believes Prime Oscar De La Hoya Would Easily Beat Him
Georges St-Pierre, the former UFC welterweight champion, responded to the rumors about a potential fight with Oscar De La Hoya in 2021.
Despite the matchup never coming to fruition, St-Pierre shared his thoughts on how it may have unfolded during a recent appearance on Pound 4 Pound with Kamaru & Henry. He showed respect towards De La Hoya and acknowledged that in his prime as a boxer, De La Hoya would have emerged as the victor.
Despite the age difference, the former UFC champion was confident in his abilities.
According to St-Pierre:
“The Oscar De La Hoya [fight], it was not an MMA fight obviously. It was boxing, but it was boxing with bigger gloves… Oscar is almost 10 years older than me. I don’t have the audacity of saying that I’m a better boxer than Oscar in his prime. No way, Oscar was one of the best of all time.”
He further stated:
“Oscar in his prime would have beat me in boxing like easily. But because I’m younger than him and I think I have less mileage than he does, I think it would make a fair fight and I think I would have beat him in boxing.”
