Donald Trump Critiques His Biopic ‘The Apprentice’ as “Fake and Classless,” Attacks Writer Gabriel Sherman as “Lowlife and Talentless Hack”

Recently, Donald Trump expressed strong disapproval of his new biopic titled The Apprentice. On Sunday, October 13, the former U.S. president utilized his social media platform, Truth Social, to voice his criticisms about the film, which features Sebastian Stan portraying him. Trump, who is a Republican presidential contender, shared his sentiments:

“A FAKE and CLASSLESS Movie written about me, called The Apprentice (Do they even have the right to use that name without approval?), will hopefully ‘bomb.’

In his tirade, Trump labeled the film as a “pile of garbage”and denounced its screenwriter, Gabe Sherman, as a “lowlife and talentless hack.”The movie, directed by Ali Abbasi, debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in May and was released in U.S. theaters on October 11.

“It’s a cheap, defamatory, and politically disgusting hatchet job”

Ali Abbasi’s biopic, The Apprentice, has not garnered a positive response from its subject, Donald Trump. He continued to criticize the film on Truth Social:

“It’s a cheap, defamatory, and politically disgusting hatchet job, put out right before the 2024 Presidential Election, to try and hurt the Greatest Political Movement in the History of our Country, ‘MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!’”

This two-hour film also depicts a pivotal time in Trump’s life, particularly his relationship with his first wife, Ivana Trump, a Czech-American businesswoman and model, portrayed by Maria Bakalova. A particularly contentious scene in the movie involves Sebastian Stan’s portrayal of Trump and the accusation regarding his treatment of Ivana.

The controversial scene is based on a 1990 deposition during a divorce case where Ivana Trump accused her ex-husband of rape; however, she later retracted those allegations. A 1993 article from Newsday quotes Trump addressing the claim, asserting it was “obviously false.”In his post, he stated:

“My former wife, Ivana, was a kind and wonderful person, and I had a great relationship with her until the day she died. The writer of this pile of garbage, Gabe Sherman, a lowlife and talentless hack, who has long been widely discredited, knew that, but chose to ignore it.”

Trump described the individuals associated with the film as “HUMAN SCUM”and expressed his hope that their project would fail, criticizing them for attempting to undermine a political movement he views as unparalleled, “MAGA2024!”

On October 14, Ali Abbasi, the director of The Apprentice, responded on X with a screenshot of Trump’s post, thanking the former president for his feedback and inviting him to have a further discussion.

Prior to the film’s release, Trump’s representatives had attempted to prevent it from being distributed, sending a cease-and-desist letter to Abbasi and Sherman just a day after the film’s premiere at Cannes.

In a pre-release interview with The Hollywood Reporter on October 14, Sherman remarked:

“They released a statement the night of the premiere saying, ‘It’s all lies, and we’re going to sue.’ That’s life imitating art. In the movie, Roy Cohn tells Trump that his number one lesson is to attack. So what do they do? They go on the attack.”

At that time, Sherman indicated that Trump had not yet seen the film, despite their offer for him to view it. The Apprentice, featuring Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Strong, and Maria Bakalova, is currently playing in theaters throughout the United States.
