On September 30, 2024, rapper Boosie BadAzz used Instagram to formally apologize to his daughter, Iviona, known as Poison Ivi, for his controversial remarks regarding her sexuality. The rapper faced significant backlash after stating that he didn’t allow Ivi’s girlfriend to visit their family, citing concerns about “contaminating” his other children.
These remarks were made during a panel discussion at Revolt World 2024 on September 22, which prompted a critical response from Ivi through an Instagram Live session, where she addressed her father’s repeated comments about her sexual orientation. In light of the public fallout, Boosie BadAzz offered his apology on Instagram, sharing a collection of photos with his daughter and captioning it:
“I SAID SOME THINGS N I DIDNT KNOW ITLL HURT U YO DADDY TRULY SORRY N I HOPE U CAN FORGIVE ME LIVE N YO TRUTH N JUST KNOW THAT U ALWAYS MY BABY NO MATTER WHAT ACCEPT MY PUBLIC APOLOGY DADDY COULDVE SAID IT N A BETTER WAY U MY BABY N WILL ALWAYS BE DAT #daddybaby HOPE WE CAN TALK.”
Boosie BadAzz’s public apology garnered mixed reactions on social media, with many users criticizing him for choosing to express his apology in such a public manner.
“Does he not have her phone number? Why post on IG lmfao,”a user commented on Twitter.
Numerous netizens suggested that Boosie BadAzz’s apology was more about addressing the backlash than any genuine remorse.
“He only said something because she did. Sadly, he’ll say something again in the next 2-3 weeks,”one tweeted.
“He’s just doing it for views & engagement! He really doesn’t mean it!”another added.
“Sounds like he’s sorry for the public scrutiny,”someone else commented.
“I hope he said it to her face not just on social media,”another user wrote.
Conversely, some individuals commended the rapper’s attempt at making amends, recognizing it as a sign of personal growth.
“Boosie’s apology shows growth, but parents need to listen and support their kids without judgment,”one person remarked.
“At least he’s apologizing. Good on him to see that growth and change,”another noted.
“The moral of the story is to love your kids. Let them live their adult lives and learn on their own accord…..”someone else tweeted.
Context Behind Boosie BadAzz’s Comments and His Daughter’s Response
Boosie BadAzz made his remarks about his daughter’s sexuality during an interview on Yung Miami’s Revolt show, Caresha Please! on September 22. He expressed that his daughter’s girlfriend was not welcome in their home to avoid exposing his other children to homosexuality.
“She still can’t bring her situation to our house. My daughter is grown—Because I don’t want it to contaminate her others [siblings]. It’s a generation we’re raising, and I don’t want her to get too contaminated for her other six or seven sisters who look up to her. I want them to bring me grandchildren the right way,” Boosie remarked.
On September 27, Ivi responded to her father’s words during a heartfelt 12-minute Instagram Live session. The aspiring rapper criticized Boosie’s focus on her sexuality instead of supporting her music career, and claimed he lied about his reaction when he discovered Ivi’s sexual orientation.
Ivi recounted that Boosie learned of her being a lesbian during a family vacation in Jamaica, where he called her a “gay b***h.”She stated that despite the pain his words caused, she had forgiven him since he is her father.
“N***a, I’m your blood. I am your daughter. And me, I feel like I done been through the most with you. And every time I turn around, you bash me. It’s like you bash me. And it’s like the whole world can go against you, but Ivi won’t. Since I’ve been a little girl, I never would go against you. And I think I’m really fed up,” she expressed.
Ivi also clarified that while Boosie was not a bad father, he often took to social media instead of having meaningful conversations with his children. She emphasized her strong bond with her siblings, who love and respect her.
Following her Instagram Live session, Boosie BadAzz issued a series of posts to clarify that he never intended to hurt Ivi and refuted the online narrative that he is a bad father, remarking, “What is understood doesn’t need to be said.”
This culminated in Boosie BadAzz’s latest apology on Instagram. As of now, Poison Ivi has not publicly responded to his apologies.
