DNA Lover Episode 14 Recap: Yeon-woo and Kang-hoon Solve the Grasstree Mystery and Uncover the Truth About Andrea’s Twin

On September 29, 2024, at 9:10 PM (KST), the highly anticipated episode 14 of the romantic comedy series DNA Lover debuted on TV Chosun. The cast includes popular actors Jung In-sun, Choi Si-won, Lee Tae-hwan, and Jung Yoo-jin.

DNA Lover centers around Han So-jin, portrayed by Jung In-sun, who is a genetic researcher at the Beneficial Gene Center. After experiencing several unsuccessful relationships marked by infidelity, So-jin embarks on a quest to discover her DNA Lover—her ideal genetic counterpart.

Choi Si-won plays the role of Shim Yeon-woo, an obstetrician and gynecologist at Shim Hospital, and the son of the hospital’s president.

In this compelling series, Lee Tae-hwan takes on the character Seo Kang-hoon, So-jin’s supportive friend and a firefighter. Jung Yoo-jin plays Jang Mi-eun, a polyamorous romance columnist who is also one of Yeon-woo’s ex-partners.

In the previous episode of DNA Lover, both Kang-hoon and Yeon-woo confess their feelings for So-jin, while revealing secrets about Father Andrea’s past. In episode 14, Yeon-woo prepares for his move to the U.S., and Kang-hoon discovers a perilous connection between the grasstree mystery and Andrea’s twin sister.

Episode 14 Recap: Yeon-woo’s Plans to Move to the U.S.

Episode 14 opens with Kang-hoon stealthily taking a pouch of chemicals from the grasstree planter, unbeknownst to So-jin. When So-jin expresses her regret over damaging the grasstree intended as a gift from him, Kang-hoon is taken aback but chooses to remain silent about the truth.

Before departing, So-jin requests some time, to which Kang-hoon responds that he will wait until her feelings for Yeon-woo fade and she only considers him. He then discards the damaged plant and pot outside.

Reflecting on their situation, So-jin and Yeon-woo contemplate their feelings toward each other.

Meanwhile, Andrea, the priest, is disturbed by the discarded plant, which evokes memories of his mother’s death in a fire, fueling his desire for revenge.

The following day, Kang-hoon realizes that the chemicals could be sodium, fuel, and alkali metal, all of which are explosive upon contact with water. He investigates the supplier connected to the grasstree and discovers the seller’s identity.

At his father’s restaurant, Kang-hoon gifts So-jin a box of fire extinguishers and personal safety devices. That night, after drinking too much, Yeon-woo mistakenly gives his driver So-jin’s address instead of his own. When he realizes his mistake, he instructs the driver to take him to his place.

However, he pauses upon seeing So-jin on the street and waits until she enters her home before leaving, reminiscing about their shared moments.

In another plotline of this DNA Lover episode, Jung Tam confides in Song Mi that he is sterile. He vows to love her fiercely, yet she requests time to process this revelation before departing.

Later, Mi-eun meets So-jin’s mother and dismisses the romantic potential between So-jin and Yeon-woo, suggesting Yeon-woo’s attraction is merely due to So-jin’s uniqueness. Contrarily, So-jin’s mother believes that Yeon-woo has genuine feelings for her daughter.

As Yeon-woo prepares to move to the U.S., he quits his job at the hospital and informs Kang-hoon, asking him to look after So-jin. Kang-hoon mentions the possibility that another party caused Yeon-woo’s father’s death, rather than his mother.

Yeon-woo reconnects with Mi-eun at the restaurant where they first met. They reminisce about that day, and he shares his plans to move to the U.S., expressing that giving up on So-jin is his way of showing love. Mi-eun offers to accompany him and professes her love, but he declines, preferring to remain friends.

Heartbroken, Mi-eun weeps in the rain en route home. Spotting her without an umbrella, Kang-hoon gallantly offers her shelter under his, playfully teasing her about her drinking as he walks her home.

In this episode, Andrea follows So-jin but withdraws when he sees Kang-hoon with her. Meanwhile, Kang-hoon reflects deeply on Yeon-woo’s impending departure.

Kang-hoon visits Yeon-woo on his final day at the hospital to discuss the grasstree incident. While they converse, a grasstree arrives at Yeon-woo’s office, startling both men.

So-jin learns from her boss about Yeon-woo’s move to the U.S. and hurriedly goes to find him, but he is occupied meeting with the director of the orphanage.

Jung Tam informs So-jin of Yeon-woo’s resignation, hinting that she holds a special place in his life, unlike anyone he’s known for years.

Kang-hoon continues his investigation of the plantation associated with the grasstrees, recognizing Andrea in a photograph and discovering the chemicals. He comes across a pinboard with images of Yeon-woo, So-jin, and himself. In a rush, he attempts to call So-jin, but she does not answer.

Yeon-woo visits the orphanage to gather more information about Andrea and manages to acquire Andrea’s admission file. The shocking contents reveal that Andrea has a twin sister, adopted by Yeon-woo’s father’s former mistress, who has previously encountered Yeon-woo. This sister is behind the serial arson incidents and has been a patient at Yeon-woo’s hospital.

In a subsequent scene, this twin sister delivers a grasstree to Kang-hoon’s father’s restaurant. Just in time, Kang-hoon arrives, destroys the planter, and retrieves the chemicals but loses sight of her.

Later at the church, Kang-hoon confronts Andrea, but A-ri interferes, insisting that Andrea was with her throughout the day. This prompts Andrea to break down, leading Kang-hoon to issue a warning about another potential fire incident, fearing that someone may die again.

As So-jin returns home, she discovers that the twinkling lights Kang-hoon hung have been torn down. In a shocking moment, Andrea’s twin attacks her, leaving her unconscious.

Episode 14 of DNA Lover closes with Yeon-woo receiving a text from Han So-jin’s phone. The ominous message comes from Andrea’s twin, accusing him of being the thief of her happiness and threatening to take everything away from him.
