DNA Lover Episode 13 Recap: Love Confessions and Father Andrea’s Past Uncovered
Episode 13 of DNA Lover starts with Sim Yeon-woo awakening from a dream where he leaves Han So-jin at a hotel. Upon waking, he questions whether he will regret that decision.
The scene transitions to So-jin and Kang-hoon at his father’s restaurant, where So-jin insists on staying with him post-injury. She reveals that she cannot envision life without him. Kang-hoon hugs her, reassuring her it will never come to that.
During their embrace, So-jin finally recognizes Kang-hoon’s scent and his promise. She realizes she has truly found her DNA lover, removes the bracelets she used to share with Yeon-woo, and writes Kang-hoon’s name on her DNA lover board.
Meanwhile, a church father is caring for a grasstree in a greenhouse. This plant has appeared at several arson sites, causing him to remember the fire that claimed Yeon-woo’s father and another fire related to his father’s mistress.
Later, Kang-hoon visits So-jin’s house to deliver food prepared by his father. Upon learning So-jin isn’t home, A-ri invites him in for tea. As he waits, he spots So-jin’s DNA lover board and is delighted to see his name on it. A-ri asks if he has confessed his feelings, but Kang-hoon declares he will wait until So-jin has completely moved on from Yeon-woo.
In this episode of DNA Lover, Mi-eun takes Yeon-woo out to lift his spirits. They dine at a dumpling restaurant that brings back memories of So-jin for Yeon-woo. Mi-eun shares her loneliness while returning to an empty home and jokingly suggests moving in with Yeon-woo, though he dismisses it as a joke.
Kang-hoon later invites So-jin to a romantic event. While she admires the decorations, they evoke memories of Yeon-woo. Nevertheless, she enjoys her time with Kang-hoon and inquires about his first love.
Kang-hoon reveals that it was someone whose tears were beautiful, reminiscing about a moment when So-jin cried beside him after his mother’s passing—a memory that remains etched in his mind. He then asks if she still feels pain from Yeon-woo.
So-jin admits she views Yeon-woo as someone who would flee in tough times and feels prepared to let him go, despite lingering memories that trouble her.
In a parallel storyline in episode 13 of DNA Lover, Yeon-woo discovers the Tree Orphanage, an institution his father supported. He learns that his father had a special connection with a boy who is now Father Andrea. Yeon-woo realizes that this boy is the son of his father’s mistress, whom he had once accused of destroying his family.
Yeon-woo eventually confronts Andrea with a charred photograph he found in the greenhouse. Although hesitant, Andrea confirms that the boy depicted is indeed him but insists he has moved on from the past after becoming a priest.
The following day in DNA Lover, Yeon-woo and So-jin awkwardly reunite at a volunteer event they originally signed up for as a couple. They attempt to keep their distance, but soon find themselves alone together. In their uneasy silence, a wasp nest is disturbed.
Yeon-woo rushes to help So-jin as they flee from the wasps, momentarily holding hands, but despite their escape, a wasp stings So-jin on the forehead.
He takes her to the hospital, and though So-jin is initially hesitant, she eventually allows him to assist her. However, when Kang-hoon calls her at the hospital, Yeon-woo feels hurt.
For skipping the event, both are assigned dishwashing duty. While working together, Yeon-woo asks So-jin how she feels about finding her DNA lover. So-jin responds that she’s happy and quickly ends the conversation.
Back in Seoul, Kang-hoon awaits So-jin at the bus stop, anxious about her well-being. Meanwhile, So-jin’s mother receives a stage two lung cancer diagnosis, leading her to contemplate contacting her daughters but ultimately deciding against it.
Kang-hoon, who has been crafting a red scarf for So-jin, feels embarrassed when his father jokes about it. Although So-jin is initially pleased with Kang-hoon’s treatment, she starts to question if her feelings for him lean more towards brotherly than romantic.
Later, Kang-hoon drives So-jin home while Father Andrea observes from a distance. Andrea then sends So-jin a grasstree, pretending it is a gift from Kang-hoon.
In another subplot, Jung Tam confides in Yeon-woo about his infertility struggles. His girlfriend, Song Mi, is unaware of his situation and desires children. Yeon-woo advises him to be truthful but to do everything possible to keep her.
Mi-eun brings Yeon-woo dinner and once again hints at moving in together. This time, Yeon-woo declines. She encourages him to confess his feelings to So-jin one final time, promising to wait should things not go as planned.
So-jin discovers the grasstree and mistakenly believes it is a gift from Kang-hoon. That night, Yeon-woo calls her, requesting a meeting. He confesses his feelings and asks for another chance, but So-jin declines, explaining that the older version of herself would have said yes, but not anymore.
Heartbroken, Yeon-woo asks if she genuinely loves Kang-hoon. So-jin replies that while she does not love him romantically, she feels that her emotions for him could represent what love is meant to feel like. Before Yeon-woo can respond further, Kang-hoon arrives and escorts So-jin inside.
In the concluding scenes, Kang-hoon confesses his love to So-jin, presenting her with a symbolic gift—a fire hose from his first rescue scene. He vows to cherish her and ensure she never sheds a tear. Just as he leans in for a kiss, the grasstree situated behind So-jin tumbles to the ground, unveiling a hidden metallic bar and a packet of liquid.
The episode ends with Andrea displaying bloodshot eyes, hinting at a concealed plan. Episode 13 of DNA Lover concludes here.
