On September 21, 2024, at 9:10 pm (KST), the much-anticipated episode 11 of the romantic comedy series DNA Lover premiered on TV Chosun.
In the previous episode (episode 10), Han So-jin discovers that Sim Yeon-woo is not her DNA lover, but rather Seo Kang-hoon. As episode 11 unfolds, So-jin unravels more of the lies Yeon-woo has spun and makes a pivotal decision regarding their relationship.
This series features Jung In-sun as Han So-jin, a devoted genetic researcher determined to find her ideal partner, whom she refers to as her “DNA lover,”after experiencing multiple failed relationships due to infidelity. She is joined by Choi Si-won as Shim Yeon-woo, a skilled obstetrician and gynecologist at Shim Hospital, who is also the president’s son.
Lee Tae-hwan plays Seo Kang-hoon, So-jin’s loyal friend who works as a firefighter, while Jung Yoo-jin portrays Jang Mi-eun, a polyamorous Romance columnist and one of Yeon-woo’s former partners.
DNA Lover Episode 11 Recap: So-jin Uncovers the Truth about Yeon-woo and Faces a Family Tragedy
In episode 11 of DNA Lover, Han So-jin begins to connect the dots after realizing that Shim Yeon-woo is not her ‘DNA lover’, but that it is indeed Kang-hoon. She reflects on how her dog seemed attracted to Kang-hoon after encountering items that bore her favorite scents.
She reminisces about their encounter at the Han riverside, where it was telepathy guiding her to him, not Yeon-woo. Despite these realizations, So-jin continues to believe that Yeon-woo is her ideal match and confides her thoughts to A-ri.
So-jin visits Kang-hoon’s father’s restaurant and recalls a day she had an allergic reaction, initially assuming it was due to Yeon-woo being nearby flowers. She later remembers that Kang-hoon had received a bouquet of flowers that day.
As she questions Kang-hoon about the timing, she’s taken aback to learn he received the bouquet simultaneously with her allergic episode, leaving her confused. In bewilderment, she flees, grappling with her thoughts.
The next morning in DNA Lover episode 11, Kang-hoon meets Mi-eun at their usual roadside stall, where he confronts her about inadvertently revealing that he is So-jin’s genuine ‘DNA lover’. Surprised that she disclosed this while under the influence, Mi-eun suggests they should bond over the secret they share.
Meanwhile, So-jin prepares to meet Yeon-woo and, guided by their alleged telepathy, he instructs her to select the meeting location. Unbeknownst to her, he instructs Jung Tam to shadow her and report back on her whereabouts.
So-jin notices Jung Tam trailing her but dismisses it as mere coincidence. However, her suspicions escalate when she overhears Yeon-woo speaking to Jung Tam on the phone, confirming her location. Realizing she’s been followed, So-jin calls Yeon-woo, pretending she’s elsewhere.
Yeon-woo lies, claiming he is also on his way there, but his deceit is revealed when he turns around to find So-jin confronting him. She demands to know if he has been utilizing Jung Tam to fabricate their telepathic connection.
Yeon-woo admits to his deception, apologizing and stating he simply wanted to ensure her happiness. When she inquires about the uniform, he confesses it belonged to Kang-hoon. Feeling betrayed, So-jin decides that she needs some space from the relationship and leaves.
Later in DNA Lover, Yeon-woo encounters Mi-eun at a bar. Mistaking their meeting for a sign of telepathy, she is delighted to see him. Yeon-woo reveals that So-jin has asked for a break, while Mi-eun admits that her drunken slip about the DNA truth may have caused this complication.
However, Yeon-woo is more troubled by the facade he has put on as So-jin’s ideal match. Mi-eun advises him to reconsider the relationship if he lacks certainty for a long-term commitment, reminding him of So-jin’s desire for a lasting bond.
The following day, So-jin is distraught over the revelation that Yeon-woo is not her ‘DNA lover’. In the meantime, Kang-hoon faces Yeon-woo and expresses that he would be pleased if Yeon-woo and So-jin ended up together, downplaying the significance of DNA.
That day, Yeon-woo’s mother agrees to his father’s divorce request and later visits So-jin’s lab to cancel her weight-loss treatment. She expresses regret about how her failed marriage has impacted her son and wishes for Yeon-woo to find someone akin to So-jin.
Upon returning home, So-jin finds Yeon-woo waiting for her. He apologizes again, but So-jin maintains that she requires more time. She then goes to a park where she unexpectedly encounters Kang-hoon, who speculates that Yeon-woo’s actions are driven by genuine affection for her.
That evening in DNA Lover episode 11, a tragedy strikes as Yeon-woo’s father visits his mother at her greenhouse, leading to a devastating fire that claims his life. In the aftermath, Yeon-woo’s mother attempts suicide but is saved by firefighters, albeit she remains unconscious. At the hospital, Yeon-woo learns of his mother’s struggles with suicidal ideation.
He organizes his father’s funeral, and So-jin attends with a colleague, recognizing Yeon-woo’s mother as a former client, pondering whether her earlier visit was a cry for help. After the funeral, Yeon-woo sends So-jin a text indicating he plans to take a vacation to clear his mind—a phrase that brings back memories of their last beach trip, prompting her to find him there.
When So-jin locates him, she discusses what his mother revealed during her visit, contemplating it may have been a plea for help. Yeon-woo reassures her that his family’s issues are not her burden to carry.
Worried about his well-being, So-jin chooses to stay with him upon noticing he has developed a fever and informs Kang-hoon, who promptly comes to check on them.
At the hotel, So-jin cares for Yeon-woo, engaging in deep conversations about his family. Yeon-woo admits that witnessing his mother’s suffering post his father’s departure has instilled a fear of love in him. It’s the reason he has struggled to express his feelings for So-jin despite his deep affection for her. The two share heartfelt moments, holding hands as they drift into slumber.
Yeon-woo wakes from a dream concerning his parents and leaves a note for So-jin, expressing gratitude and regret before disappearing. So-jin awakens to find the note and is overwhelmed with tears.
Stepping outside, she is at a loss for what to do next. Although she considers calling Kang-hoon, she ultimately decides to move forward alone. Much to her surprise, she sees Kang-hoon approaching. When she informs him of Yeon-woo’s departure, he suggests they get food since he’s quite hungry.
In the final scene of DNA Lover episode 11, a mysterious figure is revealed, studying photos of Yeon-woo’s family pinned on a board. The images of his parents are crossed out, while Yeon-woo’s picture remains uncrossed.
