Understanding the Charges Faced by OTF Members Indicted for the Murder of Quando Rondo’s Cousin Amid Lil Durk’s Arrest
On Thursday, October 24, five members from Chicago’s OTF record collective were arrested by federal agents in connection to the murder of Saviay’a Robinson, cousin of Quando Rondo. The individuals include Kavon London Grant, known as Vonnie, Deandre Dontrell Wilson aka DeDe, Keith Jones also referred to as Flacka, David Brian Lindsey aka Browneyez, and Asa Houston known as Boogie.
The group was indicted at the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, though they were arraigned at Chicago’s Dirksen U.S. Courthouse. They face several serious felony charges, including conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, murder-for-hire resulting in death, and the use of a machine gun in a violent crime that caused death.
This case is anticipated to transfer to California for further proceedings, as that is where the crime transpired. U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Gilbert has already requested their detention.
At the time of the arrests, it was reported that while Lil Durk was taken in for questioning as part of the investigation, he was not listed as a defendant in the indictment.
Furthermore, he continued to assert that the OTF members had no ties to gang warfare or other illegal activities.
The prosecution claims that these five suspects, alleged members of a Chicago street gang, utilized rental vehicles and flights to perpetrate the crime, with payments made using credit cards associated with OTF.
Moreover, it has been asserted that an unnamed OTF member purportedly offered “lucrative music opportunities” to anyone willing to eliminate Quando Rondo.
For those unaware, Rondo, also known as Q-Pac, was present at a Beverly Grove gas station in Los Angeles on August 19, 2022, with his cousin Saviay’a Robinson and several others. Soon thereafter, they were targeted in a shooting that resulted in Robinson’s death, while Rondo himself managed to escape unharmed.
As the investigation has evolved, federal officials have suggested that the shooting was an act of retaliation for the murder of rapper and alleged Black Disciples gang member King Von, who was once mentored by Lil Durk.
Von was shot in November 2020 during a confrontation with Rondo’s entourage outside a lounge in Atlanta, Georgia. In August 2023, the charges against Timothy “Lul Timm” Leeks, the 22-year-old suspect involved in Von’s death, were dropped due to the state’s “stand-your-ground” law, indicating he acted in self-defense.
