While this rumor is certainly intriguing, it is wise to approach it with some skepticism. Sony has previously chased several ambitious projects that ultimately never materialized. Current speculation suggests that this new handheld device could resemble a “mini-PS5, ”although insights from Digital Foundry indicate that it may not be capable of natively running PlayStation 5 titles. Instead, it could rely on scaled-down versions of games, drawing a parallel to Nintendo’s successful strategy.

If these rumors come to fruition, it would mark a significant return to the handheld market for Sony, nearly thirteen years after the release of the beloved PS Vita. The custom System on Chip (SoC) strategy makes logical sense for Sony, allowing for enhanced performance efficiency and effectively managing power consumption, which is crucial for portable gaming.
