In an exciting update, Marvelous has officially confirmed that characters Sakuna and Tama from the acclaimed game Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin will make their appearance in the upcoming title Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma. A new trailer has just dropped, showcasing the features of the free downloadable content (DLC), which promises to enhance the gameplay experience significantly. Upon downloading the add-on, players will find Sakuna available as a villager, appearing throughout the town and capable of joining players’ parties as a valuable ally during adventures. This DLC will be available on launch day, June 5, 2025.

The trailer opens with a detailed close-up of Sakuna’s character model as she exists within the Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma universe. Players can see her showcasing attack actions with her signature hoe. Following this, a scene unfolds where she appears alongside Tama, positioned near a house amid lush rice paddies. An interaction takes place with the male avatar named Subaru, establishing a connection that players can explore further.
Gameplay Features and Character Details
Importantly, it’s confirmed that Sakuna will function as a non-playable character (NPC) in the game. Players can recruit her into their party as an ally. Sakuna is classified as an Attacker type unit, boasting physical attacks that outperform her magical capabilities. The gameplay footage reveals that she starts the game at level 20, and it also highlights the noticeable height difference between Sakuna and the player’s avatar, enhancing the immersive experience.

Release Details
Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is set to launch for Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC on June 5, 2025. Coinciding with this release, the Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin free DLC will also be available. Fans can currently enjoy Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin on various platforms including Switch, PS4, and PC.
