Enhancements in NanaZIP: A Notable Update for 7-Zip Users

While Windows 11’s File Explorer has improved its capabilities in handling various file archives, trusted applications like WinRAR and 7-Zip still deliver superior performance and a wider array of features. Among these, NanaZIP—which is a popular fork of 7-Zip—has recently gained attention for its enhanced functionality, particularly with the launch of NanaZIP 6 Preview.

What’s New in NanaZIP 6 Preview?

The latest NanaZIP 6 Preview version is now accessible for download, boasting a modernized user interface that incorporates more XAML-based components. This means users will experience a more cohesive look and feel with native Windows 11 elements. Key updates include:

  • A redesigned address bar
  • Improved status bar functionality
  • Revamped properties and information dialogs
  • A new progress dialog for better feedback

New Features for Enhanced Usability

One of the significant new features in NanaZIP 6 is the “Extract-on-open”functionality. This feature streamlines the process of working with compressed files, automatically extracting their contents upon opening—similar to the behavior found in macOS and iPadOS. Users who prefer not to use this feature can bypass it by holding the Shift key or can permanently disable it through the app’s settings.

Performance Improvements and Support for New Formats

NanaZIP 6 has introduced file associations for CBR, CBZ, and ASAR formats, giving more flexibility in managing compressed files. Additionally, the app promises faster startup times and replaces the previous 7-Zip mainline’s Zstandard decoder, enhancing reliability and minimizing security vulnerabilities. Other enhancements include numerous bug fixes, localized improvements, and new system requirements, which now necessitate a 64-bit version of Windows 10 (build 19041 or newer) or Windows Server 2022 (build 20348 or newer). This latest update has eliminated all 32-bit components from the application.
