Surprisingly, Sonic the Hedgehog does have a father, a character that diverges from the typical archetype fans might expect. Originally introduced in the continuity of Archie Comics, this often-overlooked character has made a lasting impression on the franchise. Although he hasn’t been featured recently, Sonic’s father remains an intriguing element of the game’s lore.
The story unfolds when Scourge mistakenly identifies Jules, Sonic’s robotic father, as a Metal Sonic. This twist introduces a compelling narrative that adds depth to Jules as a character, showcasing him as an unexpectedly profound paternal figure. This comic spotlights some of Jules Hedgehog’s finest moments, reinforcing his status as a father who truly deserves more acknowledgment within the Sonic universe.
Jules Hedgehog: Confronting Sonic’s Dark Opponent

Initially introduced by Ken Penders in 1997’s Sonic Super Special #2, Jules Hedgehog was not always a robot. After suffering severe injuries during a mission alongside his brother, he underwent a total Roboticization process, becoming a servant of Dr. Robotnik for an extended period. However, Sonic’s bravery led to his father’s liberation, and they were joyously reunited. Despite his mechanical form, Jules exemplifies unwavering love and support for Sonic, particularly evident when he confronts the threat posed by Scourge.
Scourge’s goal in invading Sonic’s home was to eliminate his rival once and for all. Yet, Jules stands resolutely in his way, labeling Scourge a coward. Angered, Scourge attempts to intimidate him by referring to his own deceased father. Instead of yielding to fear, Jules defiantly asserts, “I am not your father. I was on the front lines of the Great War. I won’t go quietly.” This exchange showcases Jules’ strength, prompting Scourge to retreat in tears, allowing both Sonic and his father to prevail once more.
The Legacy of Sonic’s Father: Impact Beyond Canon
Is There a Chance Sonic’s Father Will Return? Likely Not.

Regrettably, the character of Sonic’s father was removed from continuity following the Genesis Wave that rebooted the Archie Comics’ Sonic universe. As a result, Jules Hedgehog is no longer regarded as Sonic’s canonical father. Nevertheless, the values instilled by Jules resonate through Sonic’s character as he continues to fight fiercely for those he loves, mirroring the protective spirit his father displayed against Scourge. Although the details of his father’s identity may remain obscured, Sonic the Hedgehog’s robotic father embodies the essence of a hero that influences Sonic’s journey.
