Introducing Fortnite Sidekicks: The New Cute Companions
Epic Games has unveiled an exciting addition to Fortnite: Fortnite Sidekicks. These charming companions, reminiscent of pets, accompany players across different modes such as Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite, Save the World, and even user-generated experiences (whenever permitted by the creator). While they provide no gameplay advantages, their primary appeal lies in their adorable aesthetics and engaging interactions.
Meet Your New Sidekick: Peels
The inaugural Sidekick is named Peels, a whimsical ‘banana dog’ set to be available for unlocking through the Battle Pass starting tomorrow. Following Peels, additional Sidekicks like Bonesy (accessible to owners of the Bonesy Back Bling), Spike, and Lil’ Raptor will be introduced next Friday. Notably, Epic Games has hinted at future offerings that may particularly appeal to cat enthusiasts.
Customization Limitations: A Double-Edged Sword?
Epic’s strategy with Sidekicks appears designed to monetize the experience, as players can only customize the physical attributes of each Sidekick once. Essentially, purchasing a Sidekick multiple times allows for unique Appearances, but no duplicates are permitted. This policy has sparked criticism among the Fortnite community, with many players perceiving it as a blatant money-making tactic, especially concerning younger gamers who are often eager for cosmetic options.
However, there are still avenues for personalization. Players can continually modify their Sidekick’s name and accessories, and by spending time with their pet, they can earn various hats and hoodies through Sidekick Points, enhancing the interactive experience.
Upcoming Changes and Season Transition
As a reminder, the current Fortnite season, Shock ‘N Awesome, wraps up tomorrow at 8:30 AM Pacific Time (11:30 AM Eastern Time, 4:30 PM Central European Time).A brief downtime lasting approximately two to three hours is anticipated before the launch of Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 5, which will feature a theme centered around The Simpsons.
