Microsoft Unveils New Windows 11 Preview Builds: Key Features and Improvements

Microsoft has rolled out two new preview builds for Windows 11 in the Dev and Beta Channels. These updates, identified as version 25H2 (26220.6760, KB5065793) and version 24H2 (26120.6760, KB5065793), present several intriguing enhancements. Taskbar & System Tray Enhancements

The new built-in network speed test is now accessible directly from the taskbar. Users can launch this feature via the Wi-Fi and Cellular Quick Settings pages or by right-clicking the network icon in the system tray. This tool opens in your default browser and supports tests for Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Cellular connections, facilitating better network performance assessments and troubleshooting.

Get Started Experience & Microsoft 365 Copilot

A new Microsoft 365 Copilot page has been added to enhance the Get Started experience for managed devices with an active Microsoft 365 subscription. This feature aims to streamline user engagement with Microsoft 365 Copilot, giving quick access to essential tools and guidance within the Get Started onboarding process.

Improvements Rolled Out in the Beta Channel

Windows Search and File Explorer Updates

For Insiders using Copilot+ PCs, the File Explorer Search Box placeholder has been updated to reflect awareness of the improved Windows Search features introduced earlier this year.
Additionally, new StorageProvider APIs are available for cloud providers that wish to integrate with File Explorer Home.
It’s important to note that Emoji 16.0 has been temporarily disabled and will return in a future update.

Voice Access Enhancements

A new ‘Wait time before acting’ setting in voice access has been introduced, allowing more flexibility for users with varying speech speeds. This feature can be adjusted in voice access settings, enhancing recognition accuracy for all users.

Resolved an issue causing some screen readers to fail at reading on-screen content after recent updates.

Fixed the Click to Do functionality on Copilot+ PCs, which was previously activated unexpectedly with WIN + P key presses.
Corrected a synchronization issue with the battery icon in the taskbar, which occasionally displayed incorrect charging states.

Fixed problems with media controls not displaying on the lock screen when media was playing.

Launching Click to Do from the primary display via a right-edge gesture can cause display issues in the swipe visuals, which are currently under investigation.

Taskbar Anomalies

New animations for taskbar previews have been temporarily disabled due to conflicts with window sharing. Users have reported issues with the taskbar visibility when ‘automatically hide taskbar’ is enabled.

Search and Webcam Compatibility Issues

Some search operations may return unexpected results.
