Discounty: Vermin Ties Quest – Essential Items to Offer the Rats

Discounty: Vermin Ties Quest – Essential Items to Offer the Rats

Upon diving into the delightful world of the management simulation game Discounty, players are met with an amusing yet slightly bothersome feature—a rat infestation scattered throughout the town. While these furry invaders may be a bit unsettling, they primarily seek to enjoy their surroundings without causing too much trouble.

As the player, you have the unique ability to cater to these rats’ needs. By doing so, you’ll earn valuable fast travel points across Blomkest, enabling you to navigate the game world with greater efficiency, thereby saving yourself precious in-game time.

The rats begin to make their appearance during the early stages of the game; however, you can only interact with them meaningfully once you progress into Chapter Two and the associated Vermin Ties quest. Each group of rats presents a mini-puzzle, requiring you to decipher their desires, gather the necessary items, and offer them up to satisfy their quirky cravings.

Additionally, one task involves helping a wayward sheep, which is essential for wrapping up this quest. Below, you’ll find a detailed guide to assist you in discovering what the rats crave.

When you locate each rodent group, it’s vital to consult the relevant NPCs highlighted in the sections below before presenting the rats with their desired treats. By completing all four objectives, you will also achieve a trophy or achievement titled The Streets Beneath.

Rat Group 1: At The Recycling Center

Discounty Rat Recycling

The first rat congregation makes its home near the dumpster at the recycling center. Engaging with Ted might provide some insight, albeit limited. To truly understand their preferences, consider what any rat would enjoy—most likely, cheese.

Once you reach Tier 2 of your trade agreement with Karl the Farmer, cheese will become part of your inventory. This will happen naturally as you progress through the storyline. If cheese isn’t available yet, simply continue focusing on the main quest until it becomes accessible.

When you have cheese in hand, be sure to drop a piece into the food dish situated below the dumpster. This will satisfy the first group of rats.

Rat Group 2: On The Highway

Discounty Rat Highway

The second group of rats is found hitchhiking by the highway on the western side of town, near the original bus stop. Speaking with Aunt Tellar reveals an unsettling tidbit about these rats potentially consuming radioactive waste.

Fortunately, as the story progresses, you will learn about Barbara’s fish stick enterprise, which heaps waste into the ocean daily. After some negotiation, you manage to convince her to manage the waste differently.

Each time you acquire products from Barbara, a barrel containing the dubious “Fishy Waste”will be included, which you’ll need for the rats. Just don’t toss it out immediately!

Instead, save a barrel specifically for the highway rats and place it on their shelf next to the sewer grate to complete this grouping.

Rat Group 3: On The Farm

Discounty Rat Farm

The third rat assembly gathers outside Farmer Karl’s iconic red barn in the farm area. You’ll once again need to progress through the main quest before you can assist this group.

Upon consultation, Karl expresses concern about a mythical creature known as the Nisse possibly cursing his farm. In an effort to alleviate this, you concoct a special oatmeal designed to appease the supposed folklore creature. However, it seems the rats are the true beneficiaries of the dish!

Once the Nisse is said to have left, you can feed the rats directly from the dish by granting them the same ingredients used for the oatmeal – this time in separate portions.

Present them with a bag of oats, an apple, and a serving of fish sticks to mark progress on your checklist.

Rat Group 4: On The Pier

Discounty Rat Pier

Your final rat group resides at the pier, located at the southeastern tip of the Harbor area. Here, you can consult with Barbara for hints regarding their needs.

Barbara suggests that the rats may be in search of miniature furniture—a home of their own. After, like many players, you might find yourself frustrated from carting various items without success.

In a moment of inspiration, checking the Antique Shop yields a bright pink dollhouse, likely fitting for your rodent friends. Once you purchase and present the dollhouse at the pier, you’ll complete this quest, earning your trophy and unlocking the last fast travel point.

Keep in mind that the dollhouse may not always be available for purchase, so be sure to check the Antique Shop’s inventory regularly!

The Missing Sheep In The Forest

Discounty Sheep in Forest Spot

For the completion of this quest and to earn the associated trophy, an additional task must be undertaken. This task unveils the last fast travel point in the game correlating to the completion of the quest.

Upon reaching the forest to the north, you will discover an abandoned structure in the southwest corner. Be sure to take note of the nearby sewer grate, which functions as a fast travel point.

In Chapter Three, you will find a sheep perched over this sewer grate. Upon consulting Karl the Farmer, he will explain a unique relationship between the sheep and local youths, who would provide it with an energy-boosting item.

Head back to your store, procure an energy drink, and feed it to the sheep. Doing so will clear the obstruction from the grate, unlock the fast travel point, complete the quest, and reward you with your much-deserved trophy.
