
MediaTek is poised to gain a competitive edge over Qualcomm with the anticipated announcement of its Dimensity 9500, set to take place just one day prior to the official reveal of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2. However, this initial advantage may be short-lived, as early benchmarking results suggest that the Taiwanese fabless chipmaker’s flagship SoC has underperformed in both single-core and multi-core tests. Despite this, it is essential to consider the context, as there are notable reasons behind the impressive performance of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, which claims to be up to 61% faster. Technical Analysis: Dimensity 9500 Benchmark Performance
The Vivo X300 has recently undergone benchmarking using Geekbench 6, achieving a single-core score of 2, 352 and a multi-core score of 7, 129. Contrary to previous speculations that suggested the Dimensity 9500 would utilize a ‘2 + 6′ CPU configuration akin to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, new evidence indicates a ‘1 + 3 + 4′ setup. Here, the fastest core is recorded operating at 4.20GHz, marginally exceeding the 4.00GHz speed observed during earlier tests. Notably, well-known tech commentator Abhishek Yadav highlighted on X that the Dimensity 9500 was running below its intended clock speeds, contributing to its subpar performance metrics.
As we move closer to its official launch, it is likely that the Dimensity 9500 will undergo further optimizations, aligning performance scores more closely with its true potential. It is interesting to note that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 was also tested under conditions that saw its performance cores clocked down to 4.00GHz, significantly lower than its maximum of 4.74GHz. Nevertheless, the Snapdragon achieved impressive scores of 3, 393 in single-core and 11, 515 in multi-core tests, underscoring its performance advantage of up to 61% over the Dimensity 9500.

Given that both chipsets were tested at lower frequencies, the comparison remains relevant. Qualcomm’s recent transition to in-house core architecture highlights the advantages of reduced dependence on ARM designs. Despite the underwhelming benchmarks for the Dimensity 9500, it is crucial to recognize that this is only one facet of performance evaluation.
