Diddy’s Lawyer Indicates Rapper May Reject Plea Deal, Claims He Feels “Innocent”
Rapper Diddy was arrested at a hotel in New York City on September 16, 2024, facing serious charges including interstate transportation for prostitution, racketeering conspiracy, and sex trafficking.
Following his arrest, Diddy was placed on suicide watch at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn but was taken off this watch on September 30, 2024, according to PEOPLE. His attorney, Marc Agnifilo, discussed the rapper’s stance on a potential plea deal during an interview with TMZ for their special, The Downfall of Diddy: The Indictment. Marc stated:
“It’s not up to me. It’s up to Mr. Combs, and I don’t see it happening because he believes he’s innocent.”
Marc further emphasized Diddy’s determination, saying:
“And what’s more, he believes that he needs to stand up not just for himself — for his family and for everybody who’s been targeted by the federal government.”
“Maybe I can show the world that a Black man can win in federal court”- Diddy’s attorney voices his opinion
In his interview with TMZ, Agnifilo highlighted Diddy’s mindset and desire to clear his name in court, stating:
“He feels an obligation to those people to say, ‘You know what, maybe I can break the model. Maybe I can show the world that a Black man can win in federal court. And I think he probably is the only person I know of who might be able to actually accomplish that goal.”
In addition, AllHipHop reported that Diddy’s legal team filed a notice of appeal regarding his bail on September 30, 2024. They sought to overturn Judge Andrew Carter’s denial of bail, which was based on the assessment that the rapper posed a danger to the community and was a flight risk.
Furthermore, during a preview of the TMZ documentary, Diddy’s attorney discussed a raid conducted by the Department of Homeland Security at the rapper’s residences in Miami and Los Angeles, where a reported 1000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant were seized. Marc Agnifilo questioned the accuracy of that figure, saying:
“I can’t imagine its thousands… [I’m] not really sure what the baby oil has to do with anything.”
He noted that Diddy might have purchased those items in bulk due to the size of his home.
Despite pleading not guilty to all allegations, if convicted, Diddy faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison. His attorney confirmed that Diddy intends to testify during the trial.
Since his indictment, Diddy has been denied bail on two occasions. His legal team even proposed a bail deal of $50 million, which included GPS monitoring at his residence in Miami’s Star Island. They attempted to demonstrate to the judge that he wasn’t a flight risk by proving his communication with the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
However, U.S. District Court Judge Andrew Carter raised concerns about the possibility of witness tampering and denied the bail request.
