Sean “Love”Combs, widely recognized as Diddy, has recently made headlines due to his arrest last month, facing serious allegations that include charges related to s*x trafficking, racketeering, and prostitution. He has entered a not guilty plea against these accusations.
A federal court has established May 5, 2025, as the official trial date for this highly publicized case. This announcement was made by Judge Arun Subramanian during an October 10, 2024, hearing in New York City.
Judge Subramanian also issued an order that prohibits both parties from disclosing any information that could sway the jury’s verdict.
The new trial date follows a motion filed by Diddy’s legal team, which alleged that details regarding a video—showing Diddy reportedly assaulting his former partner, Cassie Ventura—were improperly leaked by federal agents and prosecutors.
This disputed footage, claimed to have been recorded in 2016 at a Los Angeles InterContinental Hotel, was first reported by CNN in May of this year.
Diddy’s attorneys petition against the presentation of assault footage
A day before the hearing, Sean’s lawyers submitted a motion urging the judge to exclude the aforementioned CCTV footage from the trial proceedings. They contended that such leaks, including the video, could inhibit Sean’s right to a fair trial.
“The leaks have caused damaging and prejudicial media coverage, particularly sensationalizing the investigation and the involvement of Mr. Combs’ family,”the defense team articulated.
Conversely, federal prosecutors communicated with the court, asserting that they were not responsible for the release of the assault video. Their correspondence stated:
“The Government had no access to the video prior to its release by CNN. At the time of CNN’s publication, the Government did not have any video of the March 2016 incident.”
The prosecutor’s letter further indicated that the defense lacked the evidence to support claims that the video had been leaked by the prosecution.
Diddy’s lawyer discusses his situation in prison
Following his arrest on September 19, Sean has been detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. During a recent court proceeding, his attorney, Marc Agnifilo, spoke to the media about Diddy’s condition behind bars, commenting:
“I believe that the food might be the most challenging aspect of the experience.”
A source from People magazine reported that Sean is being treated in a manner comparable to other inmates at the facility. This source also noted that Diddy has expressed concern for his children and has managed to communicate with them and other family members via phone.
Moreover, during the recent hearing, Janice Combs, Diddy’s mother, was in attendance alongside his children, who expressed their dedication to supporting their father, according to a source speaking to People magazine.
The legal team for Combs has made ongoing attempts to secure bail for him, even proposing strict conditions that included a $50 million bond and having family members surrender their passports. However, prosecutors have opposed bail, citing concerns about potential flight risks.
The music mogul continues to be held at the Metropolitan Detention Center since his September arrest.
