Diddy Experiences Major Increase in Monthly Listeners Across Streaming Platforms Despite Ongoing Legal Issues, According to Chartmetric Data
In the midst of Sean “Diddy”Combs’ ongoing legal issues, his music has reportedly seen a remarkable boost in streaming activity. Data from Chartmetric reveals that Combs’ Spotify follower count rose from 1.5 million at the end of last year to nearly 1.8 million. Notably, between his arrest on September 16 and October 16, the hip-hop icon experienced a 36% increase in Spotify listeners.
As it stands, the renowned artist boasts around 13.2 million monthly listeners on Spotify. In September 2023, Combs was apprehended and charged with s*x trafficking and racketeering, following a detailed 14-page indictment. He is currently incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center, with a trial date set for May 5, 2025.
Diddy Records 36% Increase in Monthly Spotify Listenership
As highlighted earlier, Sean Combs has amassed 13.2 million monthly listeners on Spotify, reflecting a significant 36% increase from the day of his arrest on September 16 to the same date in the following month.
Luminate’s figures indicate that in the week leading up to his September 16 arrest, Combs’ music amassed 3.2 million streams across various U.S. streaming platforms. This number soared to 4.8 million in the weeks following the arrest, marking a substantial rise of approximately 50%. The current weekly streaming total has decreased slightly to 4.3 million.
Chartmetric’s statistics show that Diddy’s monthly Spotify listenership had been steady during September, August, and July, but saw an increase of roughly 3.5 million in the current month. His most popular track remains “Gotta Move On,”featuring Bryson Tiller, from his latest studio album, “The Love Album: Off the Grid.”
Other top tracks that continue to gain traction on the platform include “Another One of Me”from the same album and “I’ll Be Missing You,”a poignant 1997 tribute to the late Notorious B.I.G. Combs’ most well-known album is the June 2022 compilation “BAD BOY CELEBRATES DIDDY: The Artist.”
According to Chartmetric, Diddy saw an impressive addition of 151.9K new monthly listeners on September 28, 2024, representing a 100.6% surge compared to his usual growth rates. He currently holds a Chartmetric ranking of #334 globally, #162 in the U.S., #91 in hip hop, #46 in Pop Rap, and #10 in East Coast Rap.
As reported by Chartmetric, Sean Combs’ overall fan reach is around 25.7 million individuals. This includes 1.79 million followers on Spotify, 3.20 million on TikTok, 1.32 million monthly listeners on Pandora, 19.84 million followers on Instagram, 597.03K fans on Deezer, and 888K subscribers on YouTube. The platform categorized Combs’ recent growth as “Growth.”
Additionally, The New York Times noted that the hashtag #FreeDiddy gained traction on TikTok, accumulating 12,000 uses. However, NBC News reported that five new civil lawsuits were filed against Combs on Sunday, October 20, by attorney Tony Buzbee in New York’s Southern District.
These new lawsuits, which do not disclose the plaintiffs, further complicate the s*xual assault and r*pe allegations against the 54-year-old artist, involving incidents said to have occurred between 2000 and 2002. Among the plaintiffs, two are male while the remainder are female, with one female plaintiff claiming that Combs assaulted her when she was only 13 years old.
As reiterated, Diddy remains in custody after having three separate bail appeals denied, with his trial anticipated to commence on May 5, 2025.
