“Did She Desire an Eve Moment?” — Internet Reacts to Trina’s Recall of Nicki Minaj’s Respectful Encounter

On October 14, 2024, the X account Female Rap Room shared an anecdote from Trina about her first meeting with Nicki Minaj. She reflected on this significant encounter that took place after Lil Wayne brought her onto the Young Money record label, saying:

“When we met, she was incredibly humble and expressed her admiration for me. From that point on, I started cheering for her.”

This encounter is detailed in Trina’s and Sesali Bowen’s book, *Da Baddest*, released on October 8, 2024. While Trina and Nicki Minaj teamed up for the track “BAPS”in 2019, speculation about a feud between them began to emerge in 2023.

Social media users quickly reacted to Trina’s remarks about meeting Minaj, sharing their thoughts on X. Referencing Trina’s victory over Eve in a Verzuz battle in June 2021, which she won, one user tweeted:

“Is she trying to have an Eve moment, huh? 😂😂”

Others joined in with their reactions across the platform.

“I’m sensing something off, like ‘an Eve moment,’ one user commented.

“I don’t get why these female rappers can’t stop mentioning Nicki’s name😭😭😭,”said another user.

“Now everyone is suddenly praising Nicki 😂😂,”an internet user observed.

Meanwhile, followers of Minaj criticized Trina for her comments made to HipHop DX in December 2023, where she referred to Beyoncé as the “number one female rapper.”

“We won’t forget when you claimed ‘bey is. .. a rapper then Nicki pen,’”a user tweeted.

“Didn’t she say Beyoncé is the queen of rap?”asked another user.

“She’s giving Onika her flowers. I respect that. Sometimes fans need to read between the lines… not everyone is Onika’s rival… I don’t know,”noted another commentator.

“From day one, she was creative and ambitious”— Trina lauds Nicki Minaj in her book

Following Trina’s declaration that Beyoncé is the top female rapper in 2023, questions arose regarding her omission of Nicki Minaj’s name. Nevertheless, Trina recently heaped praise on Minaj in her book, *Da Baddest*.

Describing her first encounter with the “Tusa”artist, Trina shared:

“From the very beginning, she was incredibly creative and determined to rise to the top. She was the total opposite of my approach when entering the industry, as I was just going with the flow and figuring things out.”

Trina elaborated on how Minaj was in her “mixtape era”during their initial meeting:

“She had the streets buzzing. Her delivery was fierce, allowing her to outshine many male artists. She offered women, especially young female fans, a beacon of hope in hip-hop, and they immediately connected with her.”

During an Instagram Live in 2019 while promoting their collaboration “BAPS,”Trina responded to rumors of a dispute with Minaj, asserting there would be no disrespect towards Minaj or any artist on her album.

In contrast, Nicki Minaj addressed these rumors in a 2019 interview with Queen Radio, noting that some members of Trina’s team were upset with her for not promoting their joint album to their expectations.

Trina’s team had also voiced dissatisfaction with Minaj regarding her lack of involvement in creating visuals for the track, even after she collaborated with Megan Thee Stallion for “Hot Girl Summer.”Minaj clarified that she consistently shows support whenever she collaborates, expressing her gratitude for being a part of their project.

Minaj went on to explain:

“However, for [Trina’s] team or anyone to feel entitled to anything from me or to criticize me for supporting another female artist without addressing their issues, that’s not right.”

On June 4, 2024, Carlos King released an interview featuring Trina, who discussed her relationship with Nicki Minaj, mentioning that they hadn’t been in touch for over a year.
