Elizabeth Olsen’s portrayal of Wanda Maximoff in WandaVision allowed her to shine before the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which seemingly marked the end of her character. However, a recent issue of Marvel Comics raises questions about whether Wanda’s story is truly over.
In the conclusion of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wanda is presumed dead after the destruction of Mount Wundagore. Yet, in the Marvel universe, death is often temporary, and the latest issue of Marvel Comics’ TVA #3, released on February 26, 2025, may hint at Wanda’s potential return.
In this new comic, we see Spider-Gwen navigating the Time Variance Authority (TVA) headquarters, where she encounters what appears to be the Scarlet Witch in a stasis pod. Although it’s uncertain if this is the exact MCU version of Wanda, her attire closely matches that of her cinematic counterpart, suggesting a deliberate connection.

While the comic doesn’t definitively confirm Wanda Maximoff’s return to the MCU, it offers encouraging clues for fans who have long speculated about her fate. After all, no one truly believed her demise would be permanent. Elizabeth Olsen herself mentioned during a conversation with Jimmy Kimmel her perception of Wanda being dead, but expressed hope for a creative way to revive her character, stating she would “like to figure out how to cleverly be undead.” She also emphasized the need for “the smartest writers to figure out how to make this all make sense.” “We need to find the smartest writers to figure out how to make this all make sense, ” Olsen remarked.
The Future of Wanda Maximoff in the MCU
There have been indications from Marvel’s team suggesting that those “smartest writers” are indeed working on bringing Wanda back. Writers Jac Schaeffer and Megan McDonnell, known for their work on WandaVision and Agatha All Along, are rumored to be developing an untitled Scarlet Witch film, anticipated for a 2026 release. Fans are excited about this possibility, with Schaeffer playfully hinting at the project during the Agatha All Along premiere, saying, “We all want Wanda, so fingers crossed that’s a thing that happens.”
Additionally, Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige has practically confirmed Wanda’s return. In an interview with Brazilian publication Omelete at last year’s D23 Expo, Feige expressed anticipation for “when” and “how” the Scarlet Witch might come back, emphasizing the word “when.”This leaves fans hopeful for a well-deserved return of the character, ideally portrayed by Elizabeth Olsen, alongside an engaging script.
