“Did Kanye’s ‘YO DOT I GOT YOU’ Mean Nothing?” — Social Media Reactions to Kanye’s Shoutout to Drake at Concert in China
Netizens have responded to Kanye West’s recent shoutout to his long-time rival, Drake, during an October 2024 concert in China. The two rap legends have experienced a tumultuous love/hate relationship over the past fifteen years in the music industry. Initially, Ye and Drizzy were friends and collaborators, but tensions quickly escalated, leading to ongoing conflicts.
At the concert, Kanye West acknowledged Drake for writing a chorus while performing the song Yikes from his eighth studio album, Ye (2018).
This acknowledgment has sparked considerable conversation online, particularly because Ye had previously supported Kendrick Lamar during the notable feud between Drake and K Dot. Fans took to X to express their opinions on Kanye West’s apparent shift in loyalty. One fan on X commented:
“so ‘YO DOT I GOT YOU’ was all for nothing?”
Many other netizens shared their thoughts regarding West’s latest actions.
“What happened to getting dot,”agreed another.
“He’s only saying this cuz Drake leaked the studio footage on 100 Gigs,”quipped another fan on X.
One fan even likened Drake and Kanye to two toxic exes, tweeting:
“Kanye and Drake be acting like toxic ex’s”
“Kanye the most bipolar n***a on the planet man,”wrote another fan.
“Kendrick ass in shambles,”opined one netizen.
Numerous fans characterized West’s move as a desperate attempt to maintain relevance.
“Drake doing everything to stay relevant again,”declared an X user.
“Can’t take Ye seriously no mo,”agreed another.
“I can’t even think of a Drake line”— Kanye West previously criticized Drizzy, siding with Kendrick Lamar
The notorious feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar is widely regarded as one of the most significant conflicts in hip-hop history. Although tensions simmered for some time, J. Cole reignited the dispute last year with his track First Person Shooter, branding himself, Kendrick Lamar, and Drake as “the big three.”
The feud reached its peak when Drake released Family Matters on April 30, making allegations of domestic violence against Lamar. K Dot quickly countered with Meet The Grahams, charging Drizzy with sex trafficking and claiming he fathered a secret child.
The following day, Lamar dropped Not Like Us, which directly addressed Drake’s allegations, accusing him of pedophilia and disrespecting rap culture.
On April 21, 2024, Kanye West weighed in on the ongoing beef between Drake and Kendrick by releasing a remix of Lamar, Future, and Metro Boomin’s track Like That.
“I can’t even think of a Drake line,”he rapped, targeting Drizzy.
Moreover, the Off The Grid rapper criticized Drake’s record deal with Universal Music, remarking that Drake had traded away his music rights for a “little bag”of money.
“Lifetime deal? I feel bad for [you],”he said.
In the song, Ye openly sided with Kendrick Lamar, rapping:
“Yo Dot, I got you.”
The Like That remix initially premiered on Justin LaBoy’s radio show, The Download. While LaBoy played only a snippet of the song, the complete track was later leaked online.
