These altars can emerge in a variety of dungeon types, including normal, Nightmare, and specifically the Pit. However, their appearance in the Kurast Undercity remains uncertain.
Optimal Locations for Finding Forgotten Altars
For those keen on locating Forgotten Altars efficiently, the Hoarfrost Demise dungeon in the Fractured Peaks serves as the ideal destination. Located just north of the Bear Tribe Refuge Waypoint, this dungeon consistently features a simple layout with only a few short corridors and several ring paths on its lower levels. This design makes it easier for players to navigate and explore quickly.
Utilizing a quick-clearing build can expedite your run through Hoarfrost Demise, or players can opt to bypass enemies altogether while mapping out the dungeon. Be vigilant, as Forgotten Altars are marked by a unique icon on the minimap, which will help you identify them more easily during your exploration.
Alternatively, consider farming the Pit while looking for Forgotten Altars. Although the chances of encountering an altar here are lower due to larger map sizes, this method allows players to concurrently level up their Glyphs, enhancing overall efficiency.

Players can enhance the spawn rates of Forgotten Altars through the use of Draughts of Whispers. These valuable consumables can be obtained from Whisper caches or during events in Headhunt and Roothold Dungeons. Each Draught doubles your chances of encountering a Forgotten Altar and boosts the likelihood of finding a Fugitive Head by an impressive 50%.
To maximize the benefits, it’s advisable to reserve Draughts of Whispers for Torment IV, as this will effectively elevate Forgotten Altar spawn rates from 5% to 10%, significantly improving your chances of success during your dungeon runs.
