Disney+ Announces New Series Adaptation of Holes

Exciting news for fans of classic literature and adaptations alike: Disney+ is developing a new television series based on Louis Sachar’s beloved novel, Holes. This reimagining not only brings back the story that captivated audiences in the 1998 award-winning book but also expands on the narrative for a new generation. The original tale, which was transformed into a feature film in 2003, will now focus on a teenage girl navigating the challenges of a detention camp under the harsh leadership of the formidable Warden.

As per a report from Variety, the adaptation has officially been greenlit for a pilot episode. The project will be led by writer and executive producer Alina Mankin, known for her work on the acclaimed series Anne with an E. Joining her is Yellowjackets alum Liz Phang, who will take on the role of showrunner, while industry veteran Drew Goddard, famed for his direction of The Martian, is set to serve as an executive producer.

This new adaptation aims to explore the themes of friendship, resilience, and self-discovery that are central to the original story while introducing contemporary elements to engage today’s audience.
