At the Gamescom 2025 event, Game Director Jesús Iglesias from Saber Interactive Madrid provided exciting insights about the anticipated cooperative shooter, Turok: Origins. Gamers with Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X can expect a seamless experience, as the game will run at an impressive 60 frames per second (FPS) on these platforms. However, there is a notable caveat for owners of the Xbox Series S, as Iglesias acknowledged that achieving this frame rate on the more budget-friendly console was not feasible.
Understanding Console Limitations
The Xbox Series S, while an economically attractive option, falls short in various hardware specifications when compared to its larger counterpart. With only 10GB of memory versus 16GB in the Series X and limitations to just 20 Compute Units (the Series X boasts 52), the performance differential is evident. The disparity extends to processing power as well—rated at 4 teraflops for the Series S, compared to over 12 teraflops for the Series X. Developers have frequently voiced concerns about these constraints, suggesting that Microsoft’s pricing strategy complicates game development efforts.
Graphics Engine and Gameplay Expectations
Turok: Origins utilizes the cutting-edge Unreal Engine 5, which typically signals high-quality visuals and immersive gameplay. Nonetheless, this game takes a different approach; it is designed as a round-based cooperative shooter within linear levels, indicating that while the technology is advanced, it might not radically enhance graphical fidelity compared to other titles.
What Lies Ahead for PC Gamers
As of now, Saber Interactive has yet to announce the specific PC system requirements for Turok: Origins, which remains without a definitive release window. As they continue self-publishing the title, players will be eager for updates.
