Detailed Explanation of All Bounty Changes in League of Legends Patch 14.21

League of Legends has unveiled significant updates in Patch 14.21, specifically targeting the bounty system. As highlighted in the official patch notes from Riot Games, the newly introduced champion bounties aim to lower the overall gold rewards while offering enhanced benefits to the teams trailing in performance. This change means that taking risks will incur lesser penalties for those teams struggling.

This article will delve into the alterations made to the bounty system following the release of League of Legends Patch 14.21.

What are the updated bounty features in League of Legends Patch 14.21?

Champion bounties

The champion bounties in League of Legends are now calculated based on the total gold earned and lost, shifting from previous metrics like kill streaks and farming totals. However, gold gained through champion-specific means, such as Draven’s stacks or Twisted Fate’s passive ability, will not influence the champion bounty calculations.

Additionally, a new minimum bounty of 1 gold is introduced. This will only be visible on the scoreboard after a champion collects at least 150 gold. Any further adjustments will be made in increments of 50 gold. Notably, the “Shut Down”notification will trigger for champions who are taken down while holding a bounty of 150 gold or more.

Positive bounties:

Positive bounties grant additional gold to players who successfully eliminate an enemy champion. The recent updates regarding positive bounties are as follows:

  • Positive bounties no longer rely on kill streaks.
  • They are independent of minion and monster kills in comparison to the enemy team’s average.
  • Champions will receive 1 bounty gold for every 4 gold obtained from kills and assists, while the “Shut Down”gold will not add to the positive bounty.
  • The potential bounty gold is decreased by 1 for every 4 gold awarded to killers and assisters following a champion’s death.
  • In a positive bounty state: Champions earn 1 bounty gold for every 20 gold achieved from minions and monsters.
  • If a champion is “Shut Down,” all bounty gold earned is forfeited. Should a champion’s bounty exceed 700 gold, the surplus will be carried into their next life.
  • The first 100 bounty gold received does not count, meaning that if a player achieves kills and assists totaling 400g, no bounty will be granted initially. However, upon obtaining another set of kills and assists worth 400g, the player will earn a 100g bounty.

It’s crucial to understand that when positive bounties are active, objective bounties will diminish the effectiveness of positive bounties for the losing team, beginning with a reduction of 10% that can increase to about 80%.

Negative bounties:

Negative bounties indicate a decrease in the gold awarded for kills. This reduced value is also considered when calculating assist gold, unlike positive bounties.

Recent updates to negative bounties include:

  • Negative bounties are no longer based on death streaks.
  • They will not reset after achieving a single kill.
  • They will not negate one death per assist.
  • In a negative bounty state: The base gold value is lowered by 1 for every 4 gold provided to the killers and assisters upon a champion’s death.
  • In a negative bounty state: The base gold value is augmented by 1 for every 4 gold earned from kills and assists, with “Shut Down”gold applicable to negative bounties.
  • In a negative bounty state: The base gold value increases by 1 for every 10 gold gained from monsters and minions.
  • The first 50 negative bounty gold does not apply. Thus, a death resulting in 300g will adjust your base kill-gold to -25 instead of -75.

Objective bounties

Riot Games is also adjusting the objective bounties in League of Legends. Void Grubs will now contribute to the bounties. The bounty values will decrease when the team trailing is making a successful comeback. Changes have been made to the dragons, turrets, experience, and gold values as well.

The new updates to objective bounties in League of Legends include:

  • Void Grubs now have an impact on objective bounties.
  • Experience differences now contribute about 40% less to bounties.
  • Gold differences now contribute about 25% more to bounties.
  • Differences in turrets and dragons are slightly more impactful concerning objective bounties.
  • These bounties will expire quickly if the losing team stages a comeback.
  • The timer for ending objective bounties: Reduced from 60 seconds to 30 seconds.
  • Objective bounties reduce by 20–40% when the losing team progresses in its comeback.
  • Base objective bounty for Baron Nashor: adjusted from 500g to 300g.
