The Destiny franchise is set to broaden its horizons once more, but this time, it won’t be a sequel nor a project from Bungie. Today, it was revealed that Destiny: Rising is on its way to mobile devices, specifically Android and iOS, offering a free-to-play sci-fi shooter adventure.
This exciting new title is being developed by the well-known Chinese company, NetEase Games. It will incorporate elements typical of hero shooters and will include both competitive and cooperative modes. Check out the announcement trailer linked above for a glimpse of gameplay, and dive deeper with the developer insights below.
Licensed officially by Bungie, who created the Destiny franchise, Destiny: Rising explores an alternate timeline, delving into a storyline set in the post-Dark Age period. Similar to the original games found on contemporary platforms, this mobile version promises campaign missions, six-player strikes, and engaging PVE and PVP gameplay designed to enhance replay value. Players can anticipate a diverse range of characters, each equipped with unique abilities for combat, enabling various fighting styles.
Regarding the game’s backdrop, here’s what the developers have to say:
With the assistance of legendary Iron Lords, humanity has cast off the chains of oppression and begun to unite against alien forces seeking its annihilation. In the turmoil of this nascent era for The City, a fresh wave of Lightbearers, brought back by enigmatic beings known as Ghosts, embarks on a mission to restore humanity’s significance and secure its future.
“We at NetEase Games are privileged to collaborate with Bungie to offer a Destiny-standard experience for mobile gamers with Destiny: Rising,” stated Ethan Wang, Senior Vice President at NetEase, Inc. “Destiny is a remarkable franchise supported by a devoted global community. Being fans ourselves, we are excited and honored to bring to gamers an action-filled RPG shooter set in the Destiny Universe.”
“Over the last ten years, we’ve crafted this universe filled with unique and captivating narratives, and we are eager for mobile gamers to engage with this innovative rendition of the Destiny world, thanks to the creative team at NetEase,” remarked Terry Redfield, Creative Lead at Bungie.
In North America, pre-registrations for Destiny: Rising are now active, and playtesting will commence on November 1. Interested players can sign up here. A complete release date has yet to be disclosed.
