Destiny 2 Guide: Obtaining Slayer’s Fang Weapon

Destiny 2 Guide: Obtaining Slayer’s Fang Weapon

With the launch of Act 3 of Episode Revenant, Destiny 2 provides its eager community of Guardians with an exhilarating new toy: an exotic Void shotgun known as Slayer’s Fang. This latest addition is perfect for players seeking powerful weapons to enhance their gameplay experience.

Fortunately, obtaining this formidable weapon is not overly complex. Much like previous exotic weapons such as Vexcalibur and Choir of One, players can secure Slayer’s Fang by completing the Act 3 quest. Once accomplished, you’ll be ready to unleash its power against Fikrul’s revenants and more.

Kell’s Fall

To embark on your quest for Kell’s Fall, the first step is to secure the quest. Look for a message displayed on the holoprojector located in The Last City, next to Eido.

Upon receiving a message from Eramis, she will instruct you to consult with Spider, thus initiating the quest titled “Act III: Kell of Kells.”Head to the nearby market where you’ll find a dead ghost resting on a table. This will prompt Spider to share some dialogue with you.

Next, engage with Eido using the holoprojector, and she will present you with a shotgun frame. At this point, you will gain access to the initial version of Kell’s Fall: Reflection.

Once you commence the mission, expect to encounter several non-hostile Scorn characters. As you proceed, you will face iconic Scorn Barons from Forsaken and need to solve some environmental puzzles involving lighting braziers.

Upon completing Kell’s Fall for the first time, you’ll earn the coveted Slayer’s Fang exotic shotgun as your reward.

Perk Pool and God Rolls

Slayer’s Fang represents a powerful Void slug shotgun that fires a single round, which splits into smaller projectiles upon impact. This unique feature ensures submunitions disperse broadly, hitting any surface or enemy in range.

Among its many enticing qualities, the Slayer’s Fang comes with a remarkable exotic perk called Nightsworn Sight. This allows players to gain numerous advantages by achieving final blows against foes. Specifically, final blows will grant Truesight, boost reload speed and precision damage, and inflict a weaken effect on targets.

With each successful kill, players enjoy seven seconds of enhanced vision, and this timer can be refreshed by continuing to defeat enemies. The weakening effect coupled with enhanced damage can yield a significant 32% damage increase.

Like many newly introduced exotic weapons, Slayer’s Fang can be crafted to suit individual preferences, provided players have collected all necessary catalysts and upgrades from Kell’s Fall.

The Arrowhead Brake similarly modifies recoil patterns, allowing for a much more manageable gun. The Assault Mag offers slight increases to fire rate and stability, making it particularly advantageous for PvE scenarios where load speed isn’t as critical.

In particular, Repulsor Brace and Cascade Point are excellent catalyst choices, with each being beneficial depending on Slayer’s Fang’s intended use.

The Repulsor Brace provides crucial advantages across various activities, granting an overshield for defeating void-debuffed targets, thereby enhancing your survivability.

Note that such perks are exclusive to Episode 2: Revenant. Should you read this post-Episode 3: Heretic, it may be necessary to prioritize void-centric perks instead.

Given that the void debuffs are incorporated within the gun’s weak rounds, this perk synergizes well with currently available seasonal artifact bonuses, which include:

  • Power from Pain: Grants you Devour after rapid final blows against weakened foes.
  • Frenzied Hunger: Provides reload and handling bonuses for quick final blows while Devour is active.
  • Void Renewal: Produces a Void Breach chance with Void weapon final blows while Devour is active.
  • Supernova: Creates a large weakening pulse upon picking up a Void Breach—enhancing your damage potential.
  • Old God’s Rite: Generates seeking projectiles upon inflicting damage with a Void weapon after collecting a Void Breach.

By pairing Repulsor Brace with these seasonal artifact bonuses, Slayer’s Fang shines in low to mid-tier activities.

Conversely, if you opt for Cascade Point, it’s best utilized in non-void settings, utilizing Slayer’s Fang for high burst damage at close range.

It’s crucial to note that due to its catalysts, Slayer’s Fang is primarily tailored for PvE going forward, though it still retains some viability in PvP scenarios.

In PvP, Slayer’s Fang functions on par with other slug shotguns, featuring a base range of 75 for increased effectiveness. Though slug shotguns have a somewhat niche position in the current meta, Slayer’s Fang manages to hold its own against the competition.

One compelling advantage of Slayer’s Fang is its potential to trigger Truesight following a kill—a crucial benefit for void Hunters. This improved vision allows for more accurate shot placement and anticipation of opponents’ movements.

As players spawn in PvP with only one round, Repulsor Brace serves as the most practical Catalyst, considering other avenues exist for applying void debuffs effectively. Moreover, the Fitted Stock enhances recoil control while sacrificing a tad of handling, which can be offset with Dexterity mods on your gear.

Is Slayer’s Fang Worth It?

destiny2revenant-006

In summary, how does Slayer’s Fang stack up?

The general consensus within the community appears to be that Slayer’s Fang is merely “decent.”This sentiment is understandable given its comparison to the perhaps superior Choir of One.

While Slayer’s Fang might not redefine the game’s meta or emerge as the ultimate choice, it certainly isn’t without its merits. The unique mechanics of slug shotguns situate Slayer’s Fang in a unique position, allowing it to perform adequately, particularly when coupled with artifact perks. However, as that season comes to a close, its relevance could wane significantly.

Despite outshining Slayer’s Fang across all criteria, its inherent ability to stun Overload Champions gives it a slight edge in specific scenarios. The weapon does operate effectively, capable of delivering significant damage for eliminating multiple weakened foes faster than similar slug models.

Ultimately, while Slayer’s Fang demonstrates commendable capabilities in isolation, it risks being overshadowed by stronger alternatives like Choir of One. It may fall short in Grand Masters, Master raids, and more challenging dungeons, but remains a blast to use in less rigorous challenges such as Onslaught or Strikes—especially when synergized with a Void build and the perks stemming from Episode Revenant.
