Overview of Destiny 2’s Episode 3: Heresy
- Destiny 2’s Episode 3, titled Heresy, introduces fresh gameplay features, weapons, and enhancements to Arc Aspects.
- The introduction of the Bolt Charge buff for Arc subclasses aims to empower players who prefer the Arc element.
- Anticipated changes, such as Bolt Charge and new Aspects, are set to improve the gameplay experience across all skill levels in Destiny 2.
The launch of Episode Revenant was marked by significant community discontent, largely due to numerous glitches that hindered gameplay. In contrast, Episode 3, known as Heresy, shifts the focus to Hive-themed content and revisits The Dreadnaught—Oryx’s infamous ship, which will serve as the new battleground for missions and exploration. For Destiny 2’s Heresy to succeed, it needs to deliver on multiple fronts, including new gameplay features, weapons, crafting, and more. Fortunately, recent updates from Bungie indicate promising changes are on the horizon, particularly in improving the game’s less popular subclasses.
Enhancements to Arc Subclasses in Destiny 2’s Heresy

In the upcoming Episode 3 of Destiny 2, Bungie is set to enhance the Arc subclasses by introducing a new mechanic known as Bolt Charge. This buff accumulates through actions in battle, culminating in a devastating lightning bolt attack when maximum stacks are achieved. Players can build up Bolt Charge through a variety of means, including specific Aspects, Fragments, and weapon perks, ultimately reaching a potential 10 stacks. Once achieved, the resulting prize will significantly damage enemy targets.
Moreover, Bungie is rolling out three exciting new Aspects for the subclasses: On The Prowl for Void Hunters, Storm’s Keep for Arc Titans, and Ionic Sentry for Arc Warlocks. While On The Prowl does not directly relate to Arc, Hunters can still activate Bolt Charge through several techniques:
- Tempest Strike: Defeating any jolted foe provides a Bolt Charge stack.
- Disorienting Blow: Now delivers a moderate increase in Bolt Charge stacks upon damage infliction.
- Arc Staff: Successfully reflecting an attack earns a Bolt Charge stack.
Additionally, it is noteworthy that Hunters received a new Arc Aspect, Ascension, in The Final Shape, while Titans gained the Unbreakable (Void) Aspect, and Warlocks obtained Hellion (Solar).
A Closer Look at the New Arc Aspects
The newly introduced Arc Aspects are designed to synergize with Bolt Charge, elevating the experience for Arc subclass players. Storm’s Keep allows Titans to generate Bolt Charge stacks and extends this benefit to nearby allies upon activating their Barricade ability. They also continue to build stacks while positioned behind the Barricade, unleashing a powerful discharge once reaching 10 stacks with weapon damage. This enhancement significantly strengthens the offensive capabilities of Arc Titans while enabling strategic distance maintenance.

For Warlocks, the Ionic Sentry Aspect requires incremental charging by defeating enemies using Arc abilities or weaponry. Once charged, players can deploy an Arc turret that blinds adversaries upon impact and unleashes chains of lightning to hostile targets. This setup not only enhances survivability during intense engagements but also builds Bolt Charge stacks to prepare for heavier hits against major foes, such as bosses and Champions.

Overall, these enhancements and new features promise to significantly empower the Arc element within Destiny 2, delivering a much-needed boost to its subclasses. As players prepare for the Heresy launch, the full impact of the Bolt Charge remains to be seen, but anticipation is building for these vital improvements.
