Unlock Your Imagination with Google’s Gemini AI Storybook Feature
Google’s innovative Gemini AI chatbot is redefining creativity with its latest offering: the ability to transform your textual prompts into engaging visual storybooks. If you’ve always wanted to witness your storytelling unfold in a vibrant, illustrated format, now is the perfect time to dive into this exciting feature. Let’s explore how you can create your very first storybook using Gemini!
How to Access Gemini’s Storybook Feature
Currently rolling out, the Storybook feature may not be accessible to everyone immediately, as it is in the early stages of distribution. At present, it is available through the Gemini web platform but not yet on the Gemini app for Android or iOS. This may change in the near future, opening access on mobile apps. However, you can still create storybooks on your mobile device using a browser. Additionally, this feature can be enjoyed for free, as there’s no need to sign up for a premium plan to try out Storybook.
Getting Started with the Storybook Feature
To kick off your storytelling journey, simply navigate to Gemini in your web browser and enter a creative prompt. For example, I began with, “Can you create a story that explains the origins of the universe to a child?” This choice emphasizes storytelling’s power in making complex subjects approachable for young minds. However, the possibilities are vast and varied — more on that later!
Once you submit your prompt, Gemini will generate a short story. If you have the Storybook feature enabled, you will see an option that reads “Have Gemini create a storybook for you” at the conclusion of the generated text. Just click the Try now button to get started!

After clicking the button, allow Gemini a few moments to work its magic and compile your storybook.

Once complete, the finished digital booklet will be visible on the right side of your screen, complete with your name on the cover.

You can navigate through your creation using the arrows at the top to flip through each page and illustration.

If you prefer, you can Listen to the story being read aloud by clicking the appropriate button. By using the small arrow next to it, you’ll find additional options, such as adjusting voice pitch or enabling full listening mode.

To share your creation with others, simply hit the Share button. You can either copy the link or share it directly via various apps shown at the bottom of the page.

Anyone with access to the link can view and listen to the storybook, and they also have the option to create their own storybook.

Maximizing the Storybook Feature
The Storybook function is just one aspect of Google Gemini’s suite of tools known as Gems. Gems are tailored versions of Gemini designed for particular tasks, like crafting storybooks. You can access the Storybook directly by clicking the hamburger menu in the upper left corner and selecting Storybook from the Gems section.

This action will lead you to the Storybook Experiment page, which offers various suggestions for utilizing the feature effectively. For example, consider creating a storybook designed to ease a child’s bedtime anxiety about spending the night at their grandmother’s house.

What makes this feature particularly exciting is its versatility; storybooks are not just for kids. You can concoct entertaining stories for friends or loved ones using their photos or drawings as inspiration. For instance, I transformed a friend’s drawing of a fox from a dream into a memorable storybook character.

Moreover, you can request specific artistic styles for your storybook illustrations. For example, I asked for a tale told in a Pixel art style that reimagined Snow White’s adventures—one where she never met the seven dwarfs.

Additionally, I experimented with the anime style to create a quick comic book layout.

Each storybook can span a maximum of 10 pages, so be prepared to break complex narratives into multiple prompts for more thorough exploration.
To revisit your previous storybooks, navigate back to the Storybook Gem page, allowing you to peruse all the creations you have crafted so far.

Google has enhanced the usability of Gemini by integrating it with its diverse range of services. You may even find it beneficial to explore Gemini for searching videos on YouTube. If you ever feel the need to disconnect from AI, there are options to disable Gemini across Gmail and other Google Workspace applications.
